In BC, the PST rate for over 150k is 20%, so PST is (160k-125k)*20%=7k
GST is calculated on luxury tax and PST.
(160k-125k+12k+7k)*5%=2.7k

This is by far what bothers me most about buying a new 911. The amount of tax involved, even with a high value trade, borders on obscene. I am NOT a rich man. Like most of us here I've worked extremely hard my entire life (I started working full time hours at 15 while still in high school and have NEVER been without a job since) and sucking up the high taxes we pay. Taking care of yourself in this country earns rewards of an even higher tax burden.

Even with the luxury tax included our cars are cheaper than the US when you factor in currency exchange. I am pissed about the luxury tax, and at first was never going to get a new car if I had to pay it but now I'm just gonna bite the bullet. We need a new Conservative government to get rid of the luxury tax and also revoke all those Personal Corporation changes the Libs brought in.

Not just car buyers getting affected many other groups too like gun owners. Arbitrary bans on their once legal property in the name of safety... but can't prove even if one person was helped. Gangs who smuggle boat loads of drugs and whatever smuggle guns too. Making laws against gun owners is just for media pandering. Easy to do without spending a dime. Fooling the average person.

That's a generalization we can't afford and in my humble opinion only helps the government divide voters even more. I was poor too, nothing more than the clothes I came with. In late 90's when my parents immigrated, immigration was a scam.

Canada promises heavenly dreams but reality is that they just want more suckers to tax to death. They do basic medical throughout the application process but just before you get on the plane they do comprehensive medical testing, after a poor immigrant family has sold everything and packed up their handful belonging. Then at this point once the tickets been purchased jobs have been quit if there is anything like cancer you will get denied medical or so it was then. This is what happened to my family.

We still decided to come because the thinking was we can get her better treatment not knowing how things work here...what horrendous blunder that was. In the end we lost her. I personally ended up with over 6figures in debt trying to help my family and mother. Went to school full time, worked full time and put in a shift with my mom everyday full time rotating with father and sister.

The school preaches kids and their clueless families to vote liberal federally and provincial. The media everything scares you that the sky is falling and conservatives are the embodiment of Hitler himself. That conservatives are racist white people who want to enslave people of color. Scary stuff coming from people who you trust. We made sure we went to vote. My family votes Liberal blindly...I call it the Stockholm syndrome joking... but in reality is just sad.

Yep, if I didn't manage to buy my 911 before the federal luxury tax kicked in, I would not have bought one (I live in BC with the provincial luxury tax). Like you, I'm not rich but have been working hard and saved up enough for my dream car.

I purchased my lightly used 991.2 last fall. If/when I get my new 992 T, the car will be traded in. With the way all the taxes look and the significant price increases, things sure are leaning towards "keep your current car".

I don't' think we could find one person that would agree a $55k car is a "luxury". Yet another tax grab. And the fact that taxes are paid on cars every single time it is sold is yet another joke.

With the all in cost, this current T I ordered will probably be my last 911. I used to flip cars every 2-3 years but not worth it anymore.

As of this point, all my 911s have been purchased as used cars. Being able to use a car to trade in and reduce the taxable price is key. The federal luxury tax has taken that away.

I initially got my current T as an "interim" car while I awaited a new 911 (initial GTS order and deposit placed last May). I made sure said interim car was something I really liked just in case I got "stuck" with it. Funny thing is, I like the car so much that if I decide to not get a new car, I definitely do NOT feel stuck. The idea of ordering a brand new 911 EXACTLY how I want is very much alive and will happen at some point but I do NOT want to seriously compromise my order to keep the price under a certain threshold.

Doesn't really help trading in to lower your GST costs if you're taking a beating on the trade in at whole sale prices.

Wholesale is typically more than 5%...

Agreed. I kept my previous two 993s a LONG time (12 and 14 years respectively). The 95 was sold privately in 2018 so I didn't get an opportunity to take any tax savings on my next vehicle. It was only the 97 sold last summer that I was able to translate into a "trade in". When the time comes, we'll see what the numbers say. I love the country we live in and the west coast in particular. Always have to weigh that into the equation when getting frustrated with our taxation. Unfortunately it's a debate I have with myself all too frequently!
