^^ nailed it, my 997 S cab feels like an appliance compared to my 993. Hard to put into words - anyone I've let drive it instantly understands how special they are.
After driving a 991 and 992 for a short time I get pretty much the same feel and sensations in my Cayenne S.
Also nailed it - had a 997 c4 for 3 years , really fun car that I was very happy to have purchased. But it became a distant memory once I sold it and had one summer with the 993 c2 I replaced it with.
They aren't for everyone, but if you get "bit by the aircooled bug", all bets are off. My interest in contemporary sports cars has almost completely dissolved as a result. So much so, that anytime I've travelled to California since, I jump on Turo and try to find myself another generation of air cooled car (despite being able to rent a 991 or 992 or other newer sports car at the same price) to experience and better understand the history of these special machines. Now that I finally got my hands on one, it's with me for life.
Sure, newer models perform better in almost every possible metric, but they feel relatively dull (and uselessly over-engineered for public roads). Whereas, to sound the broken record of a typical aircooled Porsche owner, all the things of aircooled cars make for an "event" every time you jump in.

Yes it certainly is an event.
In my case it is because I never know if something will pop up. It is a 30 year old car after all.
But that all adds up to the fun for me at least.
Will be going for its first run today after the Masters.

the world is full of bottom feeders, i dont think car/Porsche circles are any different.
i've had it happen to on a ford Taurus can you believe, guy begged pleaded as he had no car new to the country and just wanted a car to get back and forth to work. A week later it was on kijiji and autotrader and double what i sold it to him for.
what you gonna do , you cant let it affect your faith in humanity.
what is so terrible? business bought a car, and is listing it for sale higher.
Seller beware, someone might buy something and sell for higher...it called capitalism. what is the alternative? Socialism? dictatorship? Justin has your back! pretty soon no-one will afford a nice car!
