Given the choice, how many that have posted here would NOT buy car insurance?

The tire and rim protection is like insurance, probably only 20% of the people will claim insurance, it's always worth it when something happens, not worth it when nothing happens.

Would disagree. In my two examples, it would not have been worth it.

It depends on the likelihood of the more expensive claims happening to make the premiums paid worthwhile.

New tire cost me say $400 on each car. Not worth it for the premium paid (if I had bought insurance, which I do not)

My decision to not opt for it is simply because of the absolutely ridiculous markups. I worked in that industry for a short period and know the math. I dont mind companies making a profit but bending me over on a product - ya no thanks. YMMV

Got a flat tire in the first month of ownership of my 992 C2S. Cost $515+tax to replace.

i want to visit that dealership though

... just sayin ...

I got suckered into paying $about $2k for tire/rim insurance when I bought my '15 981S. 3 year plan etc etc. Didnt make a single claim. I think it depends on where you live, road conditions etc and who you let drive your car.
Its your money and your peace of mind at the end of the day

I have decided not to pursue tire & rim. I am, however, eyeing the windshield 4 yr. But I was told "As far as the price goes, I do not have any room for discounts as this is all set by Porsche"

^^ complete BS. These protection plans are rebranded offerings from Safe Gard Warranty Products Inc. Porsche may suggest an MSRP to keep slimy dealers in line and prevent gouging but they dont and cannot set consumer pricing. Solely at the discretion of the dealer discounts wise - some dealers (not Porsche) even give away the basic tire and rim programs as a promo "freebie" because their costs are so low and they build the add ons from there. Read the T&Cs VERY carefully - for example I'm pretty sure hail damage is excluded etc.

Sorry o/p, where are you?
if your running your car all year? Or putting it to bed for the winter? That is only 6 months of coverage.
most of the policies don’t cover another set of snow tires. My BMW had the policy number written on the inside lip.
if your car has 10-20k on the tires, they may replace one side, but they will suggest another matching new tire for the other side.
Dealership will always argue to replace a punctured tire, when in fact a repair could be performed if they really wanted to, but don’t recommend.
Because race car, children, race car with children.

Calgary.

I didn't end up getting tire & rim. Exactly what I thought: if I was gonna drive off the lot with a new car and I get a nail in it already within 20 km, I am not going to replace it with a new tire

Bear in mind that replacement Porsche OEM rims retail starts at around US$2000 (assume dealer cost is half that) and go up from there - rim refinishing is usually sub $500, especially within the trade. Unless it's catastrophically damaged, they'll always go for the repair option.

Can't speak for tires as they're a total YMMV - in the previous 7 summers of P-car ownership I've picked up one nail which was pluggable - but I am 100% out on any dealer rim protection following my experiences.
Curious which dealer you dealt with?

Other than home and auto insurance, it is much more economical to self-insure everything. Another bad investment is most annual service checkups. Better to just replace cheap stuff and maybe repair expensive items like furnaces or A/C if they fail.

Funny you mention the check ups. I was asking my commercial hvac guy about coming out to inspect my home furnace. He said other than changing your filter, there is nothing to do on a modern furnace…just repair it when it breaks.

if it's a 911 the dealer will not fix the tire, replace only. if the tire on the other side has some wear you'll end up replacing both, 1 at your cost.
