Default New Car Pick Up Tips and Experience

Reaching out to this great community for any tips and/or experience on your recent P-car purchase and pick up. It's been a long time since I've taken delivery of a new vehicle, and a first time Porsche. Not that I would expect the experience to be any different, but things that are on my mind and not sure if it's different:
  1. Using a paint gauge to go through all the paint? I read that thread earlier on someone picking up a car with a clearly repainted panel. I'd definitely want to avoid that, but never used a paint gauge and not sure how I actually go about it. Do I scan every inch of the car or it's a quick check on each major surface/panel? Would it look ghetto doing that at a Porsche dealership? I feel the answer to that is, no, you're paying for the car, but definitely would love to hear some opinions.
  2. What else do you do or look for when picking up your vehicle?
  3. How was your experience like for the recent buyers? Did they cover your car and do a "reveal" to you? How long was the process?
  4. Did you have to sign the right of first refusal?
  5. Any other tips or gotchas?
Thanks!

PS. If anyone has a paint gauge and would be so nice to loan it to me, that would be greatly appreciated, please reach out via DM.

My 2022 was perfect. Took 1.5 hrs or so. Delivery specialist was knowledgeable and not pushy at all. They even sent an uber so my wife could accompany me home in the new car. All in all, a good experience. Markham P

Don't turn off the PSM and then 'floor it' when you are leaving the parking lot.
Enjoy the new car...

I couldn't imagine going through a paint thickness check at delivery but to each his own I guess. If you're worried about damage just ask the SA. Congrats and enjoy your new car!!

That is why meeting your detailing pro at the dealership at pick up time is helpful. Once they do a full inspection, then sign, pay and you're done.

I usually don't do a paint thickness check at delivery, but I always bring a UV lamp to check the interior for fecal matter and semen. Am I the only one who does this?

If you do a paint thickness test and you strongly suspect a panel has been repainted... what are you even gonna do about it? Not take the car?

If the repaint is verified on the dealer's floor then at least they can't say you re-painted it after delivery.....

Good call! i'll have to pass that tip off to my 18 month old so he's ready when he inherits my waitlist position on a GT3.

Oh wow that's a great experience. I don't need the Uber for my family, but that's a nice touch for sure!

I basically do nothing - if there is a problem I will have the dealer sort it out - I just jump in and drive - with factory deliveries it is indoors and all I want to do is get on the road. I generally get the car PPF/Ceramic the day I pick it up as heading for the track with brand new paint will definitely have an effect...I ripped the paint off the front of a brand new BMW M6 that way.

Look over the car ensuring that all options included.
Endure listening to how to connect phone, etc and the virtues of Porsche Connect.
Give them cheque.
Hit the road.

I just signed all the paperwork.
And inspected the PPF and ceramic.
I didn’t need any walk thru since I waited a year for it and in that time got familiar with all the bells and whistles. Plus its my fourth Porsche (first 911) so I was pretty familiar with PCM, setting up a user, etc.
I did take some pictures while it was in the showroom, since that’s the cleanest it will ever be!

Hand me the keys, don’t talk to me. Or just deliver it to my home.

If I were the GM of a Porsche store and you showed up with a paint gauge, I’d rightly assume you were insane and vow to never sell you another car.
