I have done several from 928's and have never had an issue separating the halves. I wonder if they are different.

But I do need to get mine fixed as well, I broke the shaft and currently have a section of a bic pen ink tube with the needle mounted to it. It works but I would like to have it repaired properly.

I sent it to North Hollywood Speedometer.
Service was quick and they did a good job replacing the gear and adding a new trip ****. They did calibrate it, but it's still off a little.
