Default Deposit Amount?

Local dealer asked for $2,000 now and another $3,000 when I receive an allocation for a base 992. Got the paperwork and they bumped it to $5,000 now. I’m wondering what others have paid lately? Telling me it’s a min 2 year wait.

Mine was $2k refundable deposit to be put on the waitlist, and 10% non-refundable deposit when allocation was available.

$5K for a 911 deposit back in August, told to expect 12-18 months until delivery.

Walked into a different dealer (Pfaff) last month and was told they could get me a car within a year, but based on the delivery related experiences that ive read about in some recent threads, I will not be giving them my business.

I always try and leave the lowest deposit. At the same time, I have traded a car, and waited six months for delivery… $20k trade deposit
What if the franchise doesn’t put it on my account, report it to the bank, or log it with the manufacturer?
How solvent are they? Look at all the customers that were left hanging spring 2020?

Look at the number of FORD bronco buyers that are getting last minute up charges on their deliveries.
Most of the Porsche dealerships are franchises. They can ask what they want for a deposit. There is one corporate store in Toronto. I would price it there too.
Really you don’t have a firm price until you have a contract, and ideally a serial number.
Dealership get so many floor models, they get delivery of every ordered car. If they **** you off last minute with a pricing change that you won’t like and walk away. They have an extra car to sell. At whatever mark up they want.
My brother ordered a nicely optioned M3. He waited 6 mo this for it. It arrived with 14k of extra options. Navigation and full leather, electronic shocks. He was told he could pay for it, or order another car and wait another 5+ months. I had sent my brother in to my dealership via friends and family Night. He special ordered this car because of me. Now he was being given the runaround. I called BMW Canada head office to voice my concerns. I was told it was a franchise issue. My brother did eventually settle on a new price.
From my own BMW experiences, my sharing, 9 of my bmw friends are now in Audi’s. Sharing is caring.

Shop carefully, put down as little deposits as you can, get a contract with your deposit, get a serial number on that contract as soon as you can. I would lean towards a credit car deposit. That way you may have some powerful banks on your side, if things go astray. Or at least how I think. Make sure your deposit is fully refundable at any time. Lots can happen in a few weeks, I can’t imagine what could happen in a year or two?

In the current market, unless you're ordering something bizarre, the deposit should be minimal and is mostly irrelevant. It seems weird to me that they'd ask for anything more than a grand or two. They really don't need any incentive to hold you to the deal. If you back out, they'll have another 5 buyers lined up behind you ready to pounce.

$5000 for a Boxster. Recently got the allocation. They didn’t ask me to pay anything more than the initial deposit yet

Once your contract is signed, your deposit is defined by both your signatures. As I see it….

$5000 refundable deposit to get on the list.
No deposit for allocation. The order is in and being built.
50% refundable for cancelation after build is in.
Good dealer, straightforward contract.

$2000 refundable deposit. $5000 deposit seems a bit high to me.
