Default PPI in Toronto Area

Looking to buy a 996 in the GTA. Have seen recommendations of G Tek ($405) and Hunter ($305) for pre purchase inspection. Any other recommendations? Would ideally like to go to a good garage to start building a relationship with. Have been told Hunter is more air-cooled focused, so I am currently leaning G Tek. Appreciate your guidance!

I use Hunter for air cooled and 997 (starting this year). He can certainly do 996 and does new stuff too. I find him great to work with. I think he's known for air cooled because that requires experience and he's been around since then. I've used EU Autowerks, albeit years ago now. They were good. Mantis I used this year for parts removal on 2018+ cars, I like that Dirk is there and owns it.

+1 for going with Dirk. I'd trust him with any Porsche, new or old. Committed to excellence.

Anything 997 or older I would trust Hunter or his guy Jack who is a quick, quiet, magician

on a 996 are you having a the cylinders scoped? not sure if that is included in the prices you quoted above but I would be sure to do that as well as replace the oil filter ($15) so you can cut open the old one and inspect for metal flakes. Good luck!

i asked the very same question here 8 months back when i was looking to purchase a 04 turbo for sale in Oakville, Im in Vancouver Bc.
Mantis were recommended and carried out a basic PPI at a fair cost. Communication was excellent with emailed pics and emailed report. upon delivery here the car passed its BC inspection with flying colours and has just had its first annual Service here at a local specialist, they have deemed the car in great condition and as described by Mantis.

I used hunter for my 996 a few years ago and got a mediocre report but I was unable to be present. He did a borescope but no photos. More so a phone call where I asked questions and he confirmed it was clean etc and my invoice just has a few lines on his findings. If you're looking for a more elaborate report I would consider another shop.

I got a pretty comprehensive checklist including DME reading from Gtek when I took my 997 there over 10 years ago but I didn't ask for bore scoping because I didn't know any better at the time. My 997 turned out great trouble free to the date I sold it this summer

I would choose one that is convenient to you so you can start a relationship and use them for repairs as well.
Lots of approved shops on the UCR website.

Brent is an old school guy and I feel he would say run don't walk if he saw anything concerning

Agreed - I was confident in the PPI based on his experience. If you're looking for a detailed printout/checklist etc. you won't really get that.

I used EU in 2018. Good experience. Happy to provide further details as to approach which included initial ppi and with good results proceeded to borescope. I did have solution installed at Zorotech after this. Send me your contact info and happy to have a chat and/or share a whole bunch of other info with you.

believe me we have heard very detailed long stories on here before, never too much detail to get into here.
what car was this on and what parts installed at least? I know he insists on only using OEM parts and won't install aftermarket stuff except race stuff like pagid pads etc. so what parts were incorrectly installed?

he actually talked about this a while ago and got into all the detail , it was quite an interesting read no matter which side you come down on .. wouldn't know how to search for it though. Thread may have been deleted or made under different user name.

always tough when you only have one side of the story.
