In the event anyone else has gone through a similar search as of late: I am finishing my basement and trying to source made in Canada laminate and/or vinyl which is proving to be a challenge. Has anyone come across such a product in their 'travels'. I have only come across designed, stored, etc. in Canada but nothing manufactured. I am trying to include as much Canadian content as I can - so far I'm good on lumber, drywall, insulation, and most electrical. Their do seem to be some decent products made in Germany which if all else fails would suffice.

I'll try my best to dig up some old brochures but there is a manufacturer that makes laminate flooring in Quebec. I'll post it up if I can find it but I'm almost certain some rough Google'ing will yield results.

Sorry, I couldn't find the brochure. I remember getting a copy when we were looking to replace some floors but since the move, we may have turfed it. If it helps, we went to AA Floors in Etobicoke on Evans Avenue. Good luck!

why would you put laminate or vinyl anyways? do people do that in nice homes? just go engineered if you don't want to use solid wood. many Canadian manufacturers for engineered wood and pretty cheap too.

Solid vinyl is perfect for a basement. Super tough and unaffected by moisture or water. Laminates are really not suitable for a basement.

I hadn't thought of engineered hardwood but I think with the right sub floor laminate also does the trick for a basement. I haven't taken to the notion of vinyl (at least as of yet) but hear good things from those that have gone this route.

Luxury vinyl seems to be all the rage these days for basements.

The flooring in my basement is either Swiss or German. Went together perfectly and is holding up great. It was around 1.69 sqft

In my old home, we had laminate. And we had water damage. Replacement was laminate - was ill informed by the vinyl installers. This was quite a few years ago. I would go vinyl or tile. My new home's basement was done in wood looking tile. Didn't like it when we first moved in. Quite happy living with it for the last 4 months.

I just redid the floors in my whole house last week!!, i ended up with German product and its excellent i love it

I have laminate in our basement and dri-core below it.

If you have small children you may want to look at low VOC products. We used laminate from Bruce Hardwood and our formaldehyde levels were off the charts after the floor went down.

Same for any engineered wood products. The industry is slowly changing but still not very health friendly.

I ended up running fans in and out of the basement for a month to help with the off-gassing. Then retested our air.
