OT: staying informed
Just signed up for a 24week/$24 subscription to the globe and mail digital.....
The articles in it don't really interest me that much.... I wanted to stay informed in what's happening around the world..... unfortunately, I find the world boring.... not sure if I'll keep it past the trial offer.
What are you reading?

Washington Post,Bloomberg,Economist, weekend WSJ, Weekend FT, The Star because I like to see an extreme left wing slant, and Fox News because I like to see an extreme rightward slant.

Recently subscribed to the Globe as well. My head hurts when I try to read the Star; there used to be some value in it, but they've gone way too far left. The Sun is just as dumb but in the other direction. I do like to read the NY Times once in a while as they still put out some quality material.

I can get the star digitally through my local library..... The reader is decent on the computer for the price.

Apple news carries the Globe, Star and many others, albeit in a somewhat abridged form.

For more of a global view I hit up the BBC news - as an ex-pat I admit I'm biased but it's interesting to see the different slant on the same story from differing perspectives.
Of course it's really interesting to see stories regarding Canada that hit the headlines globally but don't even register on the media here!

National Post/Financial Post is the most objective, economically literate paper I've found so that's all I read. They criticize stupid policy from Liberals or Conservatives. Sun is pretty good for local stuff. Wall Street Journal for US stuff. Can't read the lefty Star, Globe etc. Their economic illiteracy just pi$$e$ me off.

The Globe and Mail and New York Times for me. I'll be switching to The LA Times when my New York Times subscription expires. The Atlantic is another one I subscribe to for a left wing perspective.

I'm on another privately owned (ie. not vertical scope) automotive forum that's off topic section is almost entirely free of rules and pretty much all major news hits that within an hour and there's good discussion and links to all sorts of perspectives. It's also right leaning rather than left, so it usually weeds out most of the liberal BS that is in 95% of the mainstream stuff.

The Economist by far provides the most comprehensive coverage of global issues. I supplement that with Washington Post for U.S. coverage and BBC for region-focussed news, and like most people who use a browser for info consumption, often find myself following interesting links that go the other pubs (such as The Atlantic). Aside from my pitiful online local CanWest news source, there is nothing in Canada that is of interest, and especially have no use for the Globe or National Post.

Downside, particularly of the Financial Post, is my friends without a business and economics - and particularly stats - education, tell me it's difficult to understand. However, If you stick with it you'll learn things.

The economist. I also find a lot of world news a bit boring. The economist has a daily update call “espresso”, where you get surface level info on yesterday’s hot topics. Then, you can go into more major articles as you see fit.
I have a subscription to the globe, and am thinking of doing financial post as well. Some of my more right-wing friends have made compelling arguments about bias at the globe and mail. So, I’m looking for something more impartial.
