O/T: Ludwig Heimrath RIP
More sad news... Ludwig Heimrath just passed away. I first met him some ~20 years ago but got to know him about five years ago when I finally graduated to regional racing and running in the advanced groups at various track events he regularly attended. He was a legend, an awesome driver and a larger-than-life person both on and off the track. I understand he passed from cancer, on his own terms at his cottage. May he rest in peace and race in paradise.

wow another shocker...
i also first met him on Lawrence.
my first meeting him was him coming to the parts counter and yelling at me expecting him to accept my return parts, i should be charged 20% restocking fees and im lucky he is even taking them back at all, he didnt care that i came all the way from Cambridge to return them , that's not his problem.. i couldn't even get a word in ...
Then the parts guy sheepishly said to him " it was my fault , he just gave me the vin and i ordered them."
'FINE" he grumbled and walked away... to me its still a great memory but i was pretty terrified at the time as i was a 30 something year old with my first Porsche.
RIP Ludwig.

Bought my first Porsche from him in 88, on Lawrence...
An "unguided missle" at times, but what a great guy!
RIP Ludwig!

I first heard of him in 1963 when he competed in the infamous High Park GP race. It wasn’t sanctioned and took place in the early hours just past sunrise. I believe Bill Brack may have been involved too. Out of necessity it was a short race as the Toronto Police hadn’t been involved in giving permission which was never asked either. The story was carried in the Toronto Star that year. Watched him race and win many events at Mosport. Rumour had it that he had a hand switch on the brake light so he could trick a following driver he was on the brakes early.

Very sad to learn of this, I used to see LH regularly at track events in 80s/90s and visit his little shop on Lawrence to bother him. I last saw him fall of 2019 at a Porsche track day at CTMP/Mosport. He was lapping, of course, in a ridiculous caged-and-winged 911 track monster. No surprise there.
When I was a teenager, my older brother bought a new car from him. Having just returned from a ride in Heimrath's own heavily modified 930, as the story has evolved over the years, my brother robustly agreed to buy the 944 he had been looking at during the visit, in exchange for being brought back to the dealership alive, immediately. Ludwig was a unique character and you always knew where you stood with him. As a Porsche-obsessed teenaged punk with a hopped up GTI, he really treated me very nicely, even before I brought my brother to him to buy a car. He was and continues to be an ongoing influence in my enthusiasm for the brand.
RIP, Ludwig, thanks for all the memories. Condolences and prayers to the family.
