They are Driver Education events - they are NOT competition events and racing is not tolerated. Period.

Unlike the Mickey Mouse lapping events that take place at Grand Bend or TMP (Cayuga), CTMP (Mosport) where most of the "serious" DE and lapping events are held is for an inexperienced driver a challenging track where almost every single corner is blind, has elevation changes and/or is off-camber. It also happens to be the fastest road course track in North America and third fastest in the world. If you are a yahoo and end up losing control while riding your 400lb bike at Grand Bend while trying to catch and pass someone, chances are that you are only going to cause some damage to your own bike and possibly hurt yourself. If you are a yahoo when driving a 4,000lb car at a DE event, you are endangering not only yourself but your instructor and other participants, and you can easily cause $500K worth of damage if you take out another car in the process. So yeah, expect that your maturity and attitude will indeed be constantly evaluated in addition to your driving skills both by your instructors and corner workers.

You asking whether your car will be faster than your neighbour's car that you'll be competing against is indeed a red flag, and I can guarantee you that you are going to be black flagged and/or told to go home by your instructor if that is indeed what your goal is. If you want to race against someone, PCA, BMW or DriveTeq lapping events are not for you.
You must be a blast at parties.

Sheesh.
We’re only on page 1 here. By page 3, this will be an argument about politics, China or wearing masks.

welcome to the community, and enjoy. I’m sure you’ll be faster than your buddy.

Your a Porsche owner so welcome to the club. Those are prerequisites!

I would encourage you to start with the right lapping organization that promotes respect, safety and learning. It's not about coming out and setting lap times. You'll have more fun, be a better driver and bring your car home in one piece! Congrats on your amazing car!!! I hope to meet you at a lapping day someday.

For the last time - I and three other people only said that you wanting to compete against your neighbour in his Corvette is not tolerated at PCA, BMW and DriveTeq DE events, and that every single instructor that I know would bring that up if you missed it in the event description, rules, the driver meeting or the classroom instruction. While the vast majority of participants are indeed aware of their skill level and drive within their limit, there absolutely are yahoos with over-inflated egos that sometimes come to DE events with their high-powered cars and unfortunately end up disappointed when they are told that their "I-am-an-awesome-racing-driver" attitude on the track presents a danger to everyone. If you re-read my original reply to you, I actually said that I am giving you the benefit of the doubt as you are coming from a different environment, but together with the other people on here that have to sit in the passenger seat with newbies, I simply voiced a concern over you wanting to compete at DE events and talking about your car's horsepower as those two things should not be something that you even think about at a DE event, let alone be the very first things that pop into your mind before you decide to take your car on a race track at a DRIVER EDUCATION event.

If racing against your buddy and how much power you have is in fact what you think DEs are about, then I am afraid that you may be a yahoo (the PCA club certainly seems to attract more of them than either DriveTeq or the BMW club - the very responses from some members in this very thread make it rather obvious why that is). If you are willing to listen, learn and drive within your limit as you keep on improving your skills, then we're all going to have an awesome time and I'll be the first one to tell you that you're doing an awesome job and offer you a beverage afterwards.

Based on various comments you've made here, I'm afraid I'd never knowingly get in the passenger seat with you behind the wheel. You'll have to find someone else.

This right here is the big takeaway, IMO. I don't know much about bike lapping - I've watched a few events (including some serious speed at a lapping day last year at Lemans!) but certainly at car DEs I've seen a single person driving beyond their abilities take out other people's cars through their own stupidity. Mosport is a very fast and dangerous track - people get killed there. At any DE I've been to there's been no tolerance of competitiveness. In fact, that's the single thing that will void your insurance policy if you do have a crash. There was a court decision several years ago that found in favour of the driver when his insurance company tried to deny his claim for a crash at Mosport, finding that because there were no timing devices, no jockeying for position and no prizes at a DE it was non-competitive and his policy would still apply.

Your insurance policy is usually voided now because of the track exclusion addendum they make you sign. It would include DE events.

Depends on the insurance provider. Plenty in Ontario still do not make you sign a track exclusion addendum.

Playing devils advocate here. The OP stated “competing against his neighbour”. But none of us know what that means to him and his neighbour. It could be just some comparisons at the end of the day regarding lap times. It does not necessarily mean that he is going to be a yahoo on the track.

To the OP, welcome to the club. Hope your not to bruised up from your “jumping in”. LOL

If anyone needs a reminder as to why attitudes and intent are sometimes called into question at track days, can I share the opening day at Cayuga last year:

https://m.facebook.com/story.php?sto...9&id=502343238

I read the OP's inquiry as they would be comparing lap times at the end of the day, not going wheel to wheel like the ********* in the linked video.

insignificant point but Road Atlanta is the fastest road course in North America and Mosport is second.
