One of my friends had a 964 Targa that was with me for an extended period of time (he was in poor health at the time). While it does check the boxes for "driving experience" I don't see the big reason to purchase one. I'd go for a coupe... To me once you cut the roof off of something that was never intended to have it done it kills the car. 964 are pretty floppy..

If I were looking at a pure droptop. S2000, Boxster S...

Greg; I believe OP wants to get back into air cooled Porsche and doesn't want to spend for a coupe so targa better priced. He didn't say he wants targa for open top experience. He had 964 and regrets selling. Now has Cayman
"super rip off" compared to alternatives you could get for the same money, and way better performance, equipment etc...
but with the 964 you get "SOUL"...not sure it is worth the premium currently in place.

What is important is that you found your car and that you enjoy it, and that's all that really matters.
Not offended at all. There are plenty that like the 964 and plenty that do not.

In fact when I bought mine back in 2005 the 964 was still viewed as one of, if not the least, desirable of all 911's.

Just your comment that the "any price to me is my definition of a "super rip off." is a bit over the top.

You can say that you do not like the 964 or that you would never buy one but that at any price it is a "super rip off" ?????

I have owned a few P-Cars - had a 993 C2S - don't even ask how that one got away .... A Boxster S 06 and an 11 Cayman S and really happy with this car. I wanted a 964 Coupe originally and still do BUT wont bring myself to pay for something that is inflated ... albeit a market price. Nevertheless, if I find something that I can live with I will get one, if not well I will be just as happy with my Cayman now 5,000 km put on the dial this year and looking for some modifications to get me that little extra oumpf and likely do some suspension work as well ... I plan on keeping it as its super clean after having done 2 PPI at two different shops.

Thanks as always for the valued input and wish everyone well over the holidays ... Merry Christmas / Happy Holidays ..........Abe
