718 GT4
Hey all, first time on this forum. I am looking into purchasing a GT4 and have a few questions:
1 - Does the gt4 borrow the 4L from the gt3? If not, is it a bored out motor from the 2016?
2 - Are there discounts to be had on these cars considering the Covid impact and the fact that we are now late into 2020?
3 - I would love to hear some first hand experience on this car from other owners.
Thanks in advance. I apologize if these questions have already been answered on this forum.

4l is not the gt3 engine. All though the gt3 is based of the same engine design they are different internally with higher quality parts in the gt3 engine.
As like the 3.8l, it has very long gears
Engine sounds great but really it doesn't feel powerful. A 718 GTS feels like it has way more power but it lacks engine whine and the higher red line

The current 4 litre is a modified 9A2 Evo, which is the current 992 motor.
This itself is a heavy redesign of the 991.2 motor.
It is essentially the latest and greatest and loses its turbos in favour of displacement. The same motor is in the GTS 4.0 as well.

re. discounts
What's your dealer relationship like? Have you purchased any Porsche sports cars (not suv's) in the past? How many?
Should they be discounted since they're just sitting in inventory? Yes. Will they be discounted? Well, it depends....

I don’t really have a relationship with any of the Porsche dealers. I currently own a f80 zcp so this will essentially be my first Porsche GT.
if anyone has any referrals they would like to share, please let me know.

I don’t think you’ll get a discount but it’s always worth trying.
If you don’t find exactly what you want sitting on a floor, order one. Awesome car.
ive got a 981 GT4 - love it.
alternatively if you can find a deal on a 981 GT4 you might want to consider that. Neither car better than the other - slightly different. New car obviously has warranty.

Can you? I know that one Rennlist poster reported that he wound up with a GTS because he could not secure an allocation for a GT4. I believe he is in Toronto.

Yes there’s definitely no line up for GT cars these days.
I’m sure that you can order a GT4 if you want - if one dealer won’t, you’ll find one that will.
Try to get a discount on one sitting but don’t be upset when they say no. They’ll tell you to order one if you want or you can have that one right there now. Immediate availability is worth more than a discount to many.

You can always try to ask for discount on a lot GT car. Whether you get it or not is a different story.
You have to make your own trade offs between price, spec, and timing.

I think you can get a discount this time of year on an inventory GT4. Last check had a number of them sitting from bailed orders. It's tough times with tough times for months ahead. You won't save big money, but I'm sure something.
PM me where you are.
981 GT4 was a fantastic car. My 718 Spyder is proving to be even better as it should. I haven't tracked the 718 so can't speak about it there. It's a great little package that is a blast to drive on the street. Sound needs a bump, but working on that. Handling is great, 4.0 motor punches well enough for the road, not sure you want quicker on the street, won't be as fun. Size adds to the fun, small cockpit makes you feel more connected with the car. Looks great too.
