Default Independent shop in Halifax...

Is there an independent shop in the greater Halifax area that you frequent and recommend? Looking to get my 987.2 Boxster S serviced (end of summer oil change) and for future work.

Thanks,

Jethro

Jethro, I haven’t had any personal experience with any of these, but many of the guys from the club use ISI in Bedford. Another would be Burt Page at Euroworks (Kempt Rd), and All Euro on Rocky Lake Rd.

ISI does good work but they get swamped and it takes effort to get in touch.

Avoid Burt Page

Is it due to being swamped, being overpriced , or simply unreliable work?
Otherwise, I’m similarly interested in the thread.

Thanks very much guys. Yes, those are all the ones that I've found on the internet but wanted to get the lowdown from the locals. I did use ISI for minor work adjusting the hand brake and they seemed good and trustworthy. I guess will continue to give them my business. Some of the guys I know who own older Porsches do a lot of the wrenching themselves, I prefer to bring it to the specialists.

Thanks again.

They are simply stuck in the past. Dealer rates and they do not have the latest equipment.

Unreliable work and overpriced. The google reviews speak for themselves

I'm also interested in this as I just purchased an 06 Boxter.

Anyone have any idea what the dealership in Halifax wants for an oil change? I went in and asked them about purchasing a spare key (mine only came with one), and they wanted $800 for a new key, so that has me scared a little

I don't get how these places get by with not having the correct software. It doesn't cost that much

Ooh....that’s better than simple Porsche tax. Good God! For an oil and filter change? Wow! I bet the AD rolls on the floor laughing too when an oil and filter change is booked in. Well, I think I’ll buy myself a socket set and rolling ramp.

Yup - I can not recommend getting regular service done at Porsche of Halifax. Oil (8l M1 0W40), Filter (Mahle), Drain Plug Washer, and Filter O-Ring. $600 (with tax). It was complete in 90 minutes. I was under warranty and thought I would go there to build a relationship with the dealer I bought the vehicle from. Instead it was recommended I get an alignment when I checked in (even though the car tracked straight, had no irregular tire wear, and had under 20,000 km). I politely declined and was told it was strongly recommended to ensure my vehicle was operating at peak performance. I also asked them during the appointment to look at an oil leak as oil was dripping on my garage floor. I was told it was normal for a Porsche to lose a bit of oil and not to be concerned unless I have to add more then a quart every 1000 km. I explained to the service representative my understanding of an external oil leak (dripping oil from underneath engine) vs internal oil consumption.

I haven't been back for service since and now DIY (2 jugs M1 0W40 @ $30 each + Rock Auto OEM Mahle Filter for $20)

Fool me once....

I'm still torn as I love Porsche vehicles, but the service experience leaves me dead compared to Lexus and BMW in New Brunswick.

Did they clamp that hunter "alignment verification" on the wheels in the service reception bay? Aka the scam machine?

It's an interesting dilemma for sure, I've always had my cars serviced at the dealership because they've been on warranty. Now that the 987.2 Boxster S is off warranty I don't feel the need to go to the Porsche dealership, I've gone a couple of times at the end of this summer to get some minor tire fixes done. I really appreciated that they could get me in the next day to take care of things and at a reasonable price, all things considered. However, why would someone pay, let's say, $1800 for a major service there, when you can get it done at a very good independent for, what, a third perhaps, doesn't make any sense.

I have an appointment at ISI next week for an oil change and end of summer service, if they do good work and they treat me right, they can expect a lot more business from me.

Will keep you guys informed so that you can make your own decisions.

J
