The season is almost over anyway .... They can fail without warning although rare .... Take your time source one out thru the winter or rebuild it if possible .... They do come up and are out there for a lot less than 10k and then have it replaced thru the winter ...Even if you have to ship the diff elsewhere still a lot cheaper.

Wow...sorry to hear about your situation. I have a 997.1 C4s, and removed the entire front diff to convert to RWD. On the 997.2, unfortunately, that is not possible.
I had my old front diff up for sale for a year for a few hundred bucks....and not a single person was interested. It just blows my mind to think that the 997.2 front diff is a $10k part.

Season? To what season are you referring? 911s - especially AWD versions - are year-round cars lol. I know, I know, some people prefer not to subject their cars to the real and perceived ravages of winter, but they really are brilliant winter vehicles with good snow tires.

One on my springs rust out on my 2002 C4S and on my 2001 Turbo the pss9 coil overs rusted out one tie rod mount. On my 2005 Cayenne Turbo it has rust every where underneath, primary and secondary engine fans, windshield wiper motor ruined, door locks and power window lines rusted out. Even the aluminum wheel have corroded so bad they leak slowly in cold weather. Winter does damage though I expect these people just are short term owners and will never see the effects.

Yep...but no different than any other car. I had front outboard anti-vibration dampers so rusted in the bores of a 997.2 that I needed to replace a caliper, but no other significant underbody issues after 4 years of winter driving. How hard winter is on a car is dependent on what mix of salt/brine/sand your municipality uses, and how fastidious one is about keeping the body and undercarriage as clean as is reasonably possible. Always makes me wonder why folks are anxious about driving a 911 in Winter but see no problem using a Macan, Cayenne or Panny - some costing more than an average non-GT 911 - year round.

all cars are going to corode . Porsches are not Magic. I f you want it to last you look after it , just like anything else.. The degree of how much you look after it is very personal and should not be judged
The comment everyone is a short term owner is inflammatory and just BS.
I have had my SC for over 15 years, and although it is fully galvanized i store it winters...
I think it looks pretty good for 42 years old and i think if i had driven it every winter it might not look so good...
