Light rms leak? Seems like it comes and goes.

i think it's common for it to leak a bit, maybe a small dribble or two, or some sweating, but never a puddle of oil (that's when things really go wrong.)
I had my IMS and RMS taken care of last year on my Boxster S, didn't drive it much, and in the spring this year, discovered a small dribble. The shop I took it to re-did it under warranty but I think really it boils down to how often (or little) you drive it. I've been driving it regularly and no leaks. The same happened on my 996.2. Started driving it, sweat a little bit, but nothing of real concern.
If you are in Newmarket, try Keltech or Speedstar Automotive in Markham, if that's not too out of the way.

Welcome to owning an old Porsche. If it's not the Rear main seal or IMS cap seal. It will be the case half in that area. Porsche has new bolts you can replace 4-5 of them and hope for the best. Based on my experience Victor Rienz aftermarket RMS seals are garbage. OEM or nothing, the RMS has been revised so many times
The drips look worse than it actually is. Oil pools up and you can clean it then it starts leaking out again.

Auto Select is excellent, never tried Keltech or Speedstar.
You should go to the 905 GTG Sunday morning and meet some of the guys at which time you may get some feedback on 'local' indy's.

This sounds very suspicious; guy owned car for 14 years no leaks and the day he sells it is starts leaking. This type of thing happens all the time with 996s and M96 engine. I would get him to agree in writing to fix it or take the car back. sorry but this is too much of a coincidence.
BTW did you check this area of the engine before you agreed to purchase the vehicle? did you bore scope the cylinders?
I hope this works out for you.

Just enjoy it.
I drive and own a 2001 Boxster S... it's starting to weep a little bit of fluids, but I keep an eye on it.... I've owned it since 2009.
When you park it in the garage, put a piece of cardboard under it, and you can monitor how much it leaks, or if new leaks develop.

I saw the listing for this car last week....didn't really get the warm fuzzies about it, especially with a wrap, what's hiding underneath you know? Did you have a PPI done on it?
Hopefully it works out for you, but it's one I'd have stayed clear.

wasnt able to do PPI due to some issues with the previous owners timeline. It had a stack of records and we gave it a thorough lookover.
so far its drives and feels great.

sorry but this is a MAJOR red flag. We have heard this story too many times. Which engine is it? 3.4 or 3.6? Not sure how Autoselect can say cylinder scoring is rare on these? Doesn't sound like that is the problem though. I truly hope this works out for you. Too many scumbags are not disclosing engine problems on these.
hopefully it does and i get good news this week.

I hope I am wrong, but I don't think you can buy a certified 996 that is privately owned. The OP's post suggests that the car was purchased from a private entity, not a business or dealership.
