Default Gas spill on carpet - getting rid of smell?

I made the donkey move of spilling gas from a jerry can in my DD today after picking up a new Stihl leaf blower/vac. Any thoughts on getting rid of the smell so I don't have to live with it for years. I had the same misfortune with 3 bottles of red wine (different car) a number of years ago which I don't think I ever got rid of.

Cheers.

Leave the windows open, gas evaporates pretty quickly. Otherwise, usual mild soap, water, scrub.

Goo Gone might help. It is great at getting oil, permanent marker, etc out of carpets. Can't hurt to try.

Thanks gents - 3 days with windows down 24X7 seems to have done the trick. Lesson learned - much better to spill gas than red wine on car carpet :-)

Next time you can try brake cleaner. I know it works great when new gear oil leaked on a couch. I think dry cleaners use the same thing.

Gear oil is a very different substance to gasoline....brake clean won't do much as gas is already a solvent
