12 Cayman R - how much better than the S
Curious how much better in performance is the R from the S ? I understand they also command a bit of a premium and wonder whether its warranted ? tks ABe

As with anything Porsche, it's fractions...it'll be a couple tenths quicker to 60, handle a little bit better, and be a little more special.
Is it worth a premium? Maybe but it's not the specialist of special editions, we aren't talking GT4 here.

When I researched them previously, there were a lot of people who had them, who really raved about them. IIRC, they have the lightweight doors from the GT3/turbo, and a few other weight savings measures (e.g. stupid door pulls.) Also, they have the nice wing on the back, and really nice lightweight wheels.
The things that I think make them really special were the fact you can order them with the Peridot green paint, and the LWB seats. For the cars in the regular colours, and without the LWB, I dont see a huge difference over the "S." Not enough to pay a huge premium, anyway.

Whatever you lose in terms of the higher upfront purchase, you save in resale. The car is significantly lighter than an already light car and drives better than an already great-driving car. Now you could make a much faster car by taking a Cayman S and using the money you saved by upgrading it but you'll certainly lose out on resale again.

Whatever you do don't test drive any 911 variant with 500hp +. You will be ruined for most anything else. Anything else is a compromise compared to that. But for the prices those cars command it better be.
