Default Thoughts on first Generation PDK

Hi all,

So there is a car I want (997.2 C4S) but it's PDK and I won't really have the chance to drive it before buying it (long story). I have always been a diehard manual guy and my last 911 was a 997.2C4S manual. The car is very-much what I am looking for in every way but I am unsure how the PDK is. I am used to the PDK on my 2016 Macan S and I like it a lot. Is the first generation nearly as good or am I going to feel disappointed like I am driving an automatic all the time?

First gen PDK is OK, but it's quite 'clunky' compared to the second gen PDK. In sport or sport+ it kind of has this strange punch/surge when manually shifting up. Second gen PDK doesn't do this.

Of course, it's miiiiles better than the tip boxes!

my 11 pdk is awesome. Changed my view on manual cars. I will most likely never get another manual modern car.

First gen PDKs have heat problem when driven hard, which the following generation Porsche added an oil cooler for.

lots of PDKs are breaking down now and very expensive to repair. I would be sure to have it checked out and pull codes.

So after a few days and a few fun drives with the car I can honestly say I love the PDK! In sport chrono mode it's absolutely great and so far I think this car is the best of the 3 911s I've owned. I love it. Two things, I seem to have to hold the button down to close the passenger window and to open and close the sunroof. Is this normal? Or can that be reset? and if resettable, how do I do it so a touch of the button opens and closes things instead of needing to hold it. Also, the car has the buttons for nav and maps but there is no nav or maps loaded, is that normal, to not equip the car with nav but have the buttons anyway?

Yep. They are getting very clunky when gears are engaged or just won't grab the gear. A new gearbox is stupid expensive and finding a used one isn't easy. Just had a client trade in his 11 997 because of PDK issues

haven't heard anything bad about pdk, now hearing these stories I guess all the pdk enthusiasts that were on board about it saying we manual lovers were behind the times wanting to row our our gears when it first came may have to take there foot out of there mouth.

Don’t let the negativity get to you. PDK is awesome. I’m sure some break down like parts on cars break down all the time. It’s not a chronic widespread problem so enjoy.
