OT / Building my man Garage
Started design on my man garage in December when we decided to build a new crib. Yes, I hope to die here. Criteria...3 car garage with lift height capability and a mezzanine over the first bay. 14’ was the height I wanted for the lift bay so I could lift my SUV all the way on an existing direct lift I have right now. I was hoping to access the mezzanine from a lift with a ramp to place heavier item up there and drop down attic ladder for quick access. Things morphed and are ever changing as the build progresses
Plan submitted for build
Garage floor drain pipes
As I layed the 4” drain pipe and was shooting the grades I realized I had an issue........the plan heights were all from top of foundation. I now had to deal with an extra 18” of height. So the lift to mezzanine ramp was out......
so I thought about doing a simple 1000 lb lift system up to the mezzanine...........
more to come tomorrow

Outside view of 3 bay Garage framing
Mezzanine above 1st bay to first I beam, second I beam by itself
First bay has 11’6 to ceiling and the mezzanine has about 7’6” rafter collar tie. Second bay the rafters are scissor trusses for a vaulted ceiling there that was going to be open. At the last minute I added a second I beam between 2nd and 3rd bay just in case. As it turns out I’m pretty sure I’ll carry the mezzanine to the second I beam. For large item access I’m going to install a minimum 8’x 10’ lifting floor. I will do this using a boat hoist gear set that will give me a 5000 lb lift capability ......way more than i’ll ever need. This was a major stumbling block, as with a lift at 8’ in the second bay I was still going to have to steep a ramp to get large items up to the mezzanine, until I was at my cottage lifting my boat in my boat house and the light bulb went off.

Great for a cars and coffee location.
Looks like a fall meet.
Your next investment. Magnetic Floor Sweeper. Or keep your vehicle off the work sight.

Right now I have a 10’6” garage with a lift that I can park the 911 over the Cayenne. 11’6” will give me another foot if I choose to do that in bay 1 or 2. The 3rd bay has a 15’6” ceiling and that’s where my lift will go.
