Do you think this is a total loss?
My Wife's car got rear ended today. She is OK, but car took a hit.
Car is an 2006 Audi A4 Avant 2.0t with 175k on it. Damage doesnt look terrible, but I am guessing insurance will write it off, as the car is only worth max $5000-6000 retail.
Any guesses what the quote will be? Rear tailgate, wiper, and exhaust damage for sure, and Im guessing further damage under the bumper cover.

I'm just curious how it got the tailgate and the exhaust so good, but the bumper cover looks untouched. I assume it just popped in and back out, but I'm surprised you can't see cracking in the paint at least. (Maybe that's just the resolution of the photos.)

I'd see if Thilan can knock that out. He did an amazing job on one of this forum's participant's SUV several years ago. The damage looked worse than that.

Had something similar to me, but it was my boo boo. Had 270000 on the truck and I knew it would be written off if I went thru insurance. I checked out the auto wreckers, found the same vehicle and colour and was out the door, parts off parts on ( front bumper, left fender, headlight assembly, and hood ) $ 1575 all in.

Bumper is still clipped in. If the hatch opens and closes fine/the rear sill is fine I would "self repair" the car. There isn't much damage and I am sure if you look hard enough you can find someone to sorta remove the dent or find a hatch in the same color. Exhaust is an easy fix.
If you go to a shop... The fees add up fast especially with insurance claims. My step sisters 11 Hyundai Accent had a similar accident. Insurance paid her 1700$ for self repair. Needless to say it was an easy fix and a quick phone call to LKQ

On this subject comes an interesting site to waste time on. Called erepairables (use the Map search and you can find a couple of Canadian locations), you can browse for salvage cars by manufacturer and, of course, this includes Porsche.

did the fuel door close properly before the collision?
stick or automatic? (I think that was the last year of stick)

Lots of depends here. Depends on what damages are hidden behind the bumper cover, if your shop can repair the lift gate or not & if there are used parts available or not.
Because insurance has to pay shop retail, you can always cash settle & then do repairs as you/your shop see fit.
Here are the retail prices (of the parts you can see) if parts are not repairable & no used parts are available ( plus about 10 hours labour so far)

I see the fuel filler door has popped... if it won't close because the rear fender is pushed forward, there may be enough damage under the skin to make repairing it infeasible from a cost perspective. If it's localized to the rear tailgate, bumper and muffler and there's no body damage or deformation beyond the D pillar, then you may be OK.

Car is fine ...Its a superficial impact .. I could drive that car for another 100,000km but the way insurance companies work they just might write it off. I know Audi uses aluminum on some trunk and hatch panels and they are crazy expensive. My friend got a love tap from the rear awhile back on his Q5 the dent was the diameter of a tennis ball on his lift hatch and the quote to repair was $8,000 !!! They said they do not repair aluminum they replace only ..

I find there quotes often beyond ridiculous.
