Anyone in North York able to check out a car for me?
Hi all, I've been looking for a 996 or 997 tip for my wife and found one that seems pretty decent at a dealer in North York. Any kind Rennlisters able to put eyes on the car and give me an idea of whether or not it's worthwhile to get a PPI done?

Spend a couple of bucks. These guy's are awesome. No affiliation, just a satisfied customer.

I would have a boroscope done on that first. also don't know the dealer but lots of shady dealers in that area...not to say the car is not nice.

No I didn't use them for a Porsche purchase. I was most impressed with the video they provided and the pictures. They also scanned the car for faults with a code reader and measured the paint with a paint gauge. I would only use them for a visual inspection. I would proceed with a mechanical after. $150 for the basic remote inspection. I am really picky and they went over the car really well.

Traditionally those used car lots on Finch Ave are not to be trusted.
Definitely check out the paint thickness.
And I would ask about supporting paperwork to prove the kms are genuine.
Pretty easy to roll back on these early cars.

Thanks all for the advice, especially the local Intel on the general reputation of the dealers in that area. That's something that I have no way of knowing so I really appreciate that.
And in the boroscope, yes that's a definite. I've walked away from a couple 997.1's after a boroscope so I've moved into 996's which are a little less prone to it. Started looking at 997.2's as well.

Three Wheelin'
I was in the same boat as you and spent a bit more cash than buying a 996 and I ended buying a 997.1 C4s .... 996 & 997.1's can all inherit similar issues but if you do your homework and a proper inspection these cars should serve you well for many years.
I learned one thing thru the process of buying mine when doing an independent inspection ...... Tell the seller if the car fails the PPI then they pay half the PPI and if the car passes I pay the full PPI costs and buy the car. (If the car fails i mean deal breaker type stuff like scoring or major repairs)
I had one prior that I was looking at and the car failed the PPI and it was not cheap and I paid the full bill ...Then I needed another PPI when I looked at the car I ended up buying ..... I used GTEK they do proper PPI's and provide you with a concise bill of health.
Also , for the most part i don't like dealers i would much rather buy a private sale and maybe save some tax also along the way !!

^ This is great advice.
I agree on the dealers, don’t trust them no matter what. My Golf R turned out to have 4 bent wheels, a broken rotor centring screw in one front hub, over torqued wheel nuts, missing flat tire kit and a failing steering rack. Luckily the rack was done under warranty and I’m working with the dealer on the cost to fix the rims. I didn’t do a PPI.
Also never trust a Porsche dealer to do a PPI. They simply do not dig as deep as is needed when buying a used p-car.
