Default Planning a Porsche group road trip

Not entirely sure if I’ve chosen the best section to post this in, but I am working on a project and would love some input from other Rennlisters, specifically anyone who knows the NY area. Myself and some other Porsche/BMW guys from SW Ontario are planning a 4-day road trip to NYC in the spring with the cars. I am trying to firm everything up so I can officially send invites and let people know what the plan is, and I think I’m in the final stages.

I’d love to gather some input from you all on what we’ve planned so far. Any recommended route changes, any recommended spots to stop along the route, etc etc. Open to any suggestions that might make this trip a bit more enjoyable for those attending. Current rough route plan is as follows:

Day 1:
Niagra Falls (shows London on map because a group of us are leaving from there prior) —> Watkins Glen State Park —> Watklins Glen International (for lapping & dinner) —> Binghampton (for hotel stay)
https://goo.gl/maps/LvQHPQFCTt72

Day 2:
Binghampton —> Roscoe (to tour an old castle) —> Hawk’s nest highway —> Manhattan
https://goo.gl/maps/x5TRQJhsJUH2

Day 3:
Manhattan —> Harriman State Park —> Bear Mountain —> Bannermans Castle —> Binghampton (for hotel again)
https://goo.gl/maps/6T69i2dFzkN2

Day 4:
Binghampton —> Ithaca —> Rochester —> Buffalo —> Home
https://goo.gl/maps/Weu4Jbe3r442

One primary concern we have is deciding where to stay in NYC. We are a bit nervous about bringing the cars into the city (if we stay in the city, it would likely be the times square Hilton). Alternatively, could stay in Jersey and shuttle in.

Thanks in advance for any input/information!

Sounds interesting and I’d be up for it if it was over a weekend (Friday to Monday or Thursday to Sunday, etc). Please update with specific dates once finalized.

An alternate route option could be to do Watkins Glen, Lake George, Lake Placid, BURLINGTON and then back to SW Ont through Montreal or Calabogie. It’s more rural but these areas have some awesome roads and scenery.

Thanks for leading this!

We are currently planning on Thurs May 30th - Sun June 2nd. If it goes smoothly I'm sure another will follow, but hopefully with a different route (perhaps similar to the one you suggested).

Do you have to valet park/leave your keys? Or do you park yourself? I can't handle the idea of tossing the keys to my 911 to some minimum wage valet driver.

If you are going to do Burlington, Vt then be sure to get there/leave there by the ferry. Burlington to Port Kent, NY, or the other way around.

NY is almost exclusively valet.

In first year university I was a valet at the Bradgate Arms. Valets don’t bother me.

I thought the ferry shut down in winter.

Bear mountain is fun there are a lot of backroads you won't be able to drive this time of year or hard to find. Probably not an issue this time of year but the cops love us sports car drivers. IMO I live 13 miles from NYC and my cars never go into the city. Expect NYC to be a slow bumpy ride with a lot of impatient people.

This time of year meaning right now (winter)? Or this time of year meaning springtime when the trip is planned?

Sweet! Sounds like an awesome trip!!!! 99% of the garages in NYC are valet but there are one or two self park garages (this one comes to mind which is not too far from your hotel - https://goo.gl/maps/SEgiXnkRAFB2) and there are one or two automated garages (https://goo.gl/maps/SEFGUUCoBxv). I garage my car in a (big) public garage in the city and they are valet only for non-monthly parkers but if you don't find any good options let me know and I'm happy to ask if they can do something for you depending on how many cars you have. There have been many valet horror stories in NYC and I know someone that had their Ferrari pretty seriously damaged at a garage here in NYC so it's no joke.

Also, if you have time I would take some of the little side roads in Harriman while you're there! Feel free to PM if I can help with any NYC details.

Awesome, thank you! Will shoot you a message once I've got everything a little more sorted out.
