Get tth cylinders bore scoped like Iceman wrote then I would scan the ECU for over revs and that's it. If only comes up with a code for bouncing off the rev limiter than I wouldn't worry about it. If it shows mechanical over rev (missed shifts) then I would think twice about buying this car. The engines are stupid expensive for these cars. The low mileage is not necessarily a good thing for the single row IMS bearing. They don't do well if they are not driven therefore, I would recommend replacing it as soon as you can. If the clutch looks good, leave it alone and only replace the release bearing.

didn't Porsche just lower the price of core replacement engines for these?

I think I heard this as well and they ran out of stock in a week.

If you buy, do the IMS ASAP. The sound of bouncing marbles in a tin can is most unpleasant. You needn’t ask me how I know.

Dittos on that. Id get the IMS, water pump and clutch done at the same time. I'd use a really good indy Porsche shop. Parts are comparatively cheap. I wouldn't risk a rebuild unless i wanted an engine upgrade and in that case I'd upgrade the engine immediately while the engine still has value.

996 water pumps are easy to change, can easily be done in your garage with basic tools. Unless you are pretty good at wrenching, the IMS bearing is not so easy to do at home and should be farmed out. Since the clutch needs to be removed, might as well have a good look at it (measure it) and then decide what to do with that.

Picking up car tomorrow evening. (Finally 3 weeks for inspection and dealer prep). Will be calling Zorotech to install the solution ASAP. Prefer Zorotech due to logistics. Keltech is no longer certified either (not sure what’s the story there). Plan on changing Aos, clutch, rms too. Not worried about changing the water pump. I can do that myself. I have a lift in the garage and too many tools to count.

That's good info on water pump replacements. I'm familiar with the mid-engine Boxsters and Caymans where water pump failure trashes the engine, and preventive water pump replacement is labor intensive.

here’s a pic taken right after test drive.

tint has been removed. I don’ t like tints.

I thank my wife for joining me on the test drive. She encouraged me to finally do it. I sold my other car, a mustang without hesitation after 13 years.

Beautiful car!

If I may add one suggestion, install and LN Spin on filter adaptor. These are inexpensive and, when using recommended filter, eliminate the bypass feature that allows unfiltered oil to circulate the engine. These make filter changes easier and less messy, but more important the zero bypass can, make the difference between disaster and no-big-deal. Saved my engine.

I am going to get the solution installed asap. My understanding is that it comes with the spin on adapter required for the oil feed.
