Default Service options in Victoria

Hello all:

I am considering buying a 981 and would like to know if anyone has experience on the Island with a good quality shop other than the dealer.

You won't find the kind of specialist shops over here that they have in Vancouver. Gary at Forward Automotive has some experience with Porsche though, and has been pretty good to me so far. I also go to Carmena Performance for some stuff; they don't focus on Porsche specifically, but they're good, competent guys and are comfortable with unusual / aftermarket stuff.

Dealership also seems competent, but they're expensive and terrible at returning calls.

Thanks, that's helpful. My previous 10 years of ownership ('87 Targa) were soured by a dealership who knew nothing about mechanical repair but whose only response to any problem was to swap out what they guessed to be the offending component. They also lost my lugnut locks and jacked the car by boosting it on the rocker panels and bending them inwards, in both cases claiming that I brought the car to them that way...

I am keen on a 981 but have no desire in repeating the experience of endless frustration.

Was that at the Victoria dealership?

No. I have no experience of the Victoria dealership whatsoever. Perhaps they are excellent but I would rather begin with an independant shop.
