Yeah.
I am having a hard time understanding how a Porsche dealership thought they would get away with selling a GT car with a bad engine. It is possible that it was OK at the dealership, OK when the PPI was done and SOMETHING happened in transit.
If they are willing to make you whole by replacing the engine on a car with no warranty you should be singing their praises. I am sure they are going to take it out on the transport company, or at least the transport company's insurer.

Sorry to hear of your trouble. Not that common for a Mezger engine to have bore scoring. They are tough old things. I would definitely opt for the replacement engine and doubt if it would affect value.

Ronan et all,
I will update my post soon with what might be shocking or not to some of us.

So sorry you are going through this. Just awful.
Does the PPI report document the condition of the cylinder walls?

Sounds like a brutal experience and disappointing. However if you plan to keep the car and get a new engine and labour - all paid for that is a bonus I would think. Bonus for you and likely a future buyer who intends to use the car. Maybe even try and negotiate some discount for a replaced engine. Weird how there is no bill of sale and dealer shipped it across the country. Presume you've paid them?
Looking forward to the conclusion. Hope it works out for you to either return the car at no cost or be made whole to your satisfaction with the car.

Hi guys,
I found a 997.2 GT3 RS for sale at one of the largest dealer in ON back in early May. I had the car PPI'd by a well known Porsche shop as it was the closest to the dealership and was also recommended by a friend. I spoke to the shop owner prior to PPI and asked him what the PPI included and he verbally told me a boroscope would be used to check cylinder walls and leakdown test would be additional cost.

The proximity of the dealer with respect to the shop always has me wondering "if I scratch your back, will you scratch mine". I have viewed a PPI while a friend was selling his car to another party with both being on-site. The PPI was a joke, sorry to say. Luckily the car was in excellent shape and I have been in touch with the new owner now and then years later.
If I had a PPI done (I do my own), I'd want to be there with the tech to view the borescope and not take someone I know nothing about, his word for it. Same for a leak-down test.
You might invest in a OBD reader and Durametric. The GT car I just viewed had huge numbers in over-revs in all 6 ranges and all within the last few hours. No thanks and not on a non Porsche CPO car. Take $50K off the price and I'll risk it.
That can happen on any car, not just 911s. There is a O2 Sensor Heater Circuit Malfunction code, for example P0135 for Bank 1 Sensor 1, etc.

You would be surprised how many Pcars I get in for PPIs have crazy amount of over-revs all within the last few hours and we aren't talking about 1 & 2s...TBH We deal directly with the client buying the car and not the dealer. I won't supply the dealer/seller with a PPI sheet or DME printout unless they pay for it. I've been burned once on a PPI... 996 C4S to be exact

Its certainly not " normal" for an 02 sensor to trigger a cell. Id call bs on any dealer who told me that.
If the cell is on something is wrong.
