Default Porsche stolen at gunpoint during test drive

https://www.cp24.com/news/porsche-st...lice-1.3982648

Story seems really weird. Doesnt mention the model stolen.

Google maps shows the area with new Industrial buildings. Not the type place you would thing gangstars would be cruising around at dinnertime looking for a car to jack.

reason #35 why I’ll always trade in my car to a dealer even if it means I get less

hahaha.... that is exactly what I was thinking.

Some guy contacting me recently to test ride a brand new $400 bicycle that I am selling on Kijiji. I told him, no problem, just leave me a full cash deposit and you are welcome to take it for a ride.

His exact words were "Can you just leave a ID, like a Drivers license and Credid card. Don’t feel comfortable leaving cash with someone"

My response...

"No sorry. I dont feel comfortable giving my bike to someone without the cash."

A maxed out credit card or a drivers license really are going to do me no good if the bike is gone. The police would come by and would be laughing as they filled out the report. That is if they even come by to do a report at all.

If someone is serious, then the deposit taken at my house should not be an issue. After our conversation the guy never showed.

And that is on a $400 bike. Nevermind on a $100k Porsche.

If someone ever totaled your car on a test drive, I think you would be lucky to get 'black book' value for it. Which on the 997 cars seems to be up to 20 - 40% under market value.

And if the guy had no insurance or his license was suspended, then things would get even worse. I am guessing you would still be covered by your insurance, but it would likely be a fight to get paid out.

Hmmmmm

When the SUSPECT stopped the vehicle to take pictures of the car, police say another vehicle pulled up and an occupant displayed a firearm.

Wonder if it was a typo or if they really think it was an inside job

Not saying it could not happen in a private sale, however the article says that the victims are the Porsche dealership and of course the employee of the dealership. Not a whole lot of details in the story.

Wonder if it were a PDK?
Many thugs can't drive stick and baggy pants to the knees make shifting tough for those that can.

Industrial areas are great from a low-traffic, no witnesses perspective. Great place to stage an accident or hand over a vehicle to an accomplice.

Don't all new Porsches have GPS tracking built into them?

They don't mention the model so maybe it was an older one. Ballsy move though! "Customer" was definitely an accomplice!!

You'll be fine. Tim Bosma was selling his 2007 Dodge Ram with 170,000 km for $24,000....

My old MR2 was broken into and the thugs were caught by police after making it up half a block away from my house because they couldn't drive manual.

I guess the test driver is a suspect because he gave a fake DL to the dealership before the test drive....
