I think upsell is a big part of their job.... I read somewhere (probably on the internet) that Dealerships make the most money on service... Car sales is just the floral arrangements to pretty it up.

I believe Porsche's shop rate is $240/hour, whereas most indies are $80-100/hour. Plus, IMO dealerships are more willing to recommend unneeded service to make an extra buck. Depending on who you are, this is either over-service or "going the extra mile". I'm the former, as I like $$ staying in my pocket.

240 an hour ???? that's absolutely insane !!!!

i've owned Porsches for the last 25 years , the number of times they have been at dealers in that time ? =0

independents = 3 ( one alignment on each car and one trip to mantis as I broke a bolt in the head and needed it drilling out. )

I wonder how much coin I have saved over that time.

Judging by the state of your car I'd say about tree-fiddy!

Pfaff is $170/hr. I highly doubt you'll find any indy mechanic that want less than $100/hr for European cars.

EA is Engineered Automotive. Never been to EU so I'm not sure what it stands for.

So anyone have feedback on Downtown Porsche? I heard good things about Mantis and Hunters but they are a bit far as I am in midtown Toronto.

If you do a forum search, you will find mixed reviews on Downtown Porsche, but make sure you read into the context to make your own judgement.

If you're in midtown Toronto, MVS Motors would be a good option too. I go to them regularly, and theres a few other forum folks who will vouch for them.

The owners are scammers.

For the benefit of the community, would you be comfortable sharing as to why?

Indy's don't answer the phone, as they are under the car, working.
They don't get to emails until after hours.
Dealership? You never talk to the mechanic, and the service adviser is trained to blow smoke up your @zz and take as much money out of your pocket as they can.
We are all doomed.
I do as much as I can myself.
I have a few indy's that I rotate through. Full costing before the job commences. One of my indy's even picks up my car, and drops it off. But his sister lives close.
Car under warranty? I try and visit a little bit, so they remember my name. Don't need that many 3oo dollar oil changes.
Need a fathers day present? Ramps are on sale at the tire.... $38 bucks.
