What year did Porsche change powertrain on Cayenne -
I'm trying to decide on what year Cayenne to buy - Considering 2008-2012 and have been told not to consider anything above 2008. Looking ofr sound advise

2014 was the last of the normally-aspirated V8s in the Cayenne S and GTS. From 2015 those models now have twin-turbo V6s. The top-of-the line Turbo model still continues with a V8 though (turbocharged, naturally!)
It sounds like the advice you were given was to avoid the 958 generation, which I would not agree with at all. we have a '13 GTS and it has been flawless. The 958s were quite a bit lighter than the 957s, so performance improved across the board. Engines were the same, but just evolved (the early coolant pipe issues were remedied and oil squirter improvements were implemented). The only real 958-specific foible I know of are problematic variocam bolts in the early 958s (2011 models). There is a recall on this item, so it should be taken care of, but if you are buying privately confirm the work has been done. If the bolts do fail, it will basically kill the motor.
