I got to disagree on the BC Surcharge not ‘amounting to much’. My last 2017 991.2 TTS Cab had a sticker of over $267, 000, with some dealer options is was a tad over $273,000, all in. So 15% on $25,000 = $3,750, and 20% on $123,000 = $24,600. So an extra $28,350. The base figures include the $13,650 GST I paid in AB. So in BC that car would set you back $301,350. I understand the money laudering issue is a concern, but the Luxury Surcharge is a hammer that hits all the folks who want to buy ‘nice’ cars out of their hard earned money.

LOL, yup. The weather in BC mostly sucks in the winter, I went to U of Vic back in the 70s for a couple of years so I have had a little exposure. I think the best is to use BC as a summer residence, which I have for the last 25+ years. Main base is still Calgary, but most winter months have been in AZ, or now the southern Caribbean. I do feel sorry for the folks who will be stung by the surcharge. So far my summer home in BC is fine for any extra non-residence taxation, as it is on Kootenay Lake, but time will tell.

Having grown up and spent the first 45 years of my life in Ottawa and Toronto, Ill take Vancouvers "winters" all day long. Sure its rainy, but I still take my motorcycle to work most days, can mountain bike on the Shore almost the entire winter out my door, get in the car for 15 minutes and go skate skiing on Cypress, get in the car for 17 minutes and go downhill skiing on Cypress or get in the car for 70minutes and ski at Whistler. Yes it rains but it also snows to great depths VERY close to the city. And the rain cleans up the streets well!

Plus 5-10 degrees all winter is pretty sweet!

If someone has seasonal affective disorder its probably not a great place to be however, its pretty gray in the winter.

It's a rape by an other name that will cause great harm to future generations whose chance of advancement is being robbed by the infusion of money laundered cash.

Donald Trump is spot on in his observation that we are getting ****ed over.
I agree that BC & Toronto in particular are being destroyed for future generations by foreign cash. And if Federal legislation is not brought into effect to curb it, it will only spread from city to city and province to province.

What I don’t understand is why the government taxes us (Canadian) citizens for this? Why not make the taxes extreme for every foreigner I.e. Non-Canadian or Non-American Citizens? And unchanged for Canadians? Wanna buy real-estate? Sure 100% tax for foreign investors. Wanna buy a luxury car, 100% tax for non-citizens. In my opinion it’s only fair. We’re the ones paying taxes for their infrastructure, why are we all being taxed “fairly”. The way I see it, if you bring cash to our country to launder it, why should you be treated “fair” like all the other people. Pay up! 💰

LOL...we're dealing with socialism, everything and everyone will be taxed.

If you're going to be poor, Canada is high on the list for overall comfort.

There's always Panama...

Sorry I am not a grey-sky winter guy. BC is great in the winter for the odd week long ski trip, and thats it, IMHO. I did the cold/sunshine thing for decades because I could make a whole bunch more money in Alberta. Now retired I can get my sunshine and warmth in the winter in both AZ and now a new house I have just bought on Bonaire. However, it is still BC in the summer,...... for the time being at least. However, the local Development Department in Nelson turned down my Architechs Plans for a new summer house on my lake property. BC is very anti-business right now and with the current socialist government situation, backed by the Greens, it does not bode well. I noted to the planning Board they just stopped a $3 Million+ local construction project, that would have provided a few man-years of employment in an area that need jobs, they just gave me a blank stare back. They did not care as they all have cushy government jobs, leading to pensions. But I still enjoy the he!! out of driving my Alberta registered P-Cars on some BC highways. So far they have not caught me going 40 over the posted limit, so they have not impounded me yet, nor I have added any cash to their rather steep ‘high-velocity’ taxes.

I can agree on the thievery of the provincial government. Its infuriating. I turned a blind eye for awhile shortly after I moved here because the love for Vancouver is so great. Ive only been here 3 years and I'm getting tired of the Provincial government fleecing me at every opportunity. And I can afford to be here! The anger amongst people who are struggling to pay the $1.7X gas, the real estate, the higher food, ICBC.....the list goes on and on. People are fed up.

I can't remember the last time BC politics has been so entertaining.

Almost makes living in Ontario bearable.

Almost.

The government spends other people's money and could care less about logic.

B.C is the best province in Canada if looking for fair weather living year round. Yes there is rain and grey sky winters, but every other province is too cold in the winter.

Agreed. Looking to move the family to BC as soon as I find work out there. Not much Aerospace in the area and other large scale manufacturers are cautious about the transferable skill set. After this never ending winter (snowed last night) in Toronto, I'm itching to get out there. I want to drive the 911 on the sea to sky too. Feel like the driving roads out there are going to be epic!
