Currently own a 2004 boxster S 550 SE 6spd 130km purchased in '16. No issues aside from cosmetics. Previously had a 97 base tiptronic from '09-17.
I bought the 97 to get my toes wet and for the colour. Experienced a cracked cylinder wall/ slipped sleeve. Swapped motor to another used and was fine for 3yrs
Thoughts....ims hysteria is overrated. I don't mind the non S actually. Just couldn't do then tiptronic. As much as I love the power on my newer S. It's more fun to drive a underpowered car fast than an overpowered car slow. Just my opinion.
I have had both a 986 and currently a 987 S. The S is a pretty nice bump in performance, better brakes, suspension, gearbox and hp.
Bang for your buck its really hard to beat a 2.5L Boxster, cheap to fix, dual row IMS, no drive by wire. My 99 had new tires and Bilstein shocks, it and handled like it was on rails, tons of fun and very predictable. Just don't drag race a V6 Camry, you will loose!
Given the circumstances, I think I will lean towards a 986.1 given how cheap they go for. It will at least fulfill the Porsche void for the next while until my parking situation improves and allows for a 99x back in my life again.

If you end up with a 97-99 and need any parts let me know. I have tons of engine bay stuff.
Back on the market and noticed a few in the GTA'ish area with decent asking prices. Hoping anyone here has a lead on any nice Boxsters. IMS not being done is not a problem. Thanks in advance!
I got an 06 Boxster and have driven all of 1000 kms, which considering I took it out of storage last week is pretty good. I find it a delightful car and it has the 5 spd and thats plenty. The sound of the six right behind me is special and it loves to rev. I moved up to Huntsville and the roads up here were screaming 'get a Boxster' and I did. I bought it in February and made the sale conditional on a PPI which was done by Courtney Walsh at EU Autowerks in Woodbridge. That made sense since the seller was at Keele/Finch area. The car is a blast and the steering is phenomenal. I got the car at Modena Fine Cars, Mark is the owner and is a good guy.
