Plan on attending US Grand Prix in Austin next October.

Looking for helpful tips on accommodations & best place to view race.

Max V. advises that the view is poor wherever the stewards are located.

I've always sat in turn 9, it's close to a parking lot and easy to get in/out. You see a massive amount of the track as well.

Hotels in Austin are very expensive on the best of days and during the GP they massively go up in price. I've always stayed in San Antonio, yes it's a bit of a drive but much more affordable. I believe a parking pass at COTA is 175$ for 3 days, you can park on someones front lawn for around 20$ and just walk to the track nearby. Austin itself is a rather overrated city, the GP festivities are located to a small area which already pricey bars/restos don't bother waiting in any of the lines as you can go closer to the Uni campus for food/drink.

Fly into IAH and rent a car then drive. Driving around Texas is face paced and easy

How much would you say the whole weekend could end up costing someone if they were trying to save money? Possible to do for $1500 or less?

That would be difficult with airfare, rental car, hotel, tickets and food.

My tickets were around 500$ USD, plus another lets say 100-125$ usd per night for a hotel, 4 nights (Thursday-Sunday). I guess you could always fly from KBUF to save a few$$$ I did that in 2012, my ground trip ticket was 175$ and the dollar was close to par at the time

Malaysia Grand Prix this year cost me around 4000$ but I stayed there for two weeks

concessions at COTA are already stupid pricey when you don't factor in the exchange rate. You could eat cheap elsewhere or tailgate beforehand. What I also suggest is a pair of comfortable shoes, COTA is huge and has lots of elevation change. I've witnessed poorsouls who can dressed in fashion shoes suffering. The facility is really nice

I think I'll do Mexico City next year. Prices seem reasonable for what you get. Sadly I'll be in Europe for 3 weeks next year just after the European rounds end. Its been made clear by wifey not to even attempt Russia

That's awesome that you're able to go to so many of them. Mexico should be good as long as the championship is still not decided.

I try to do one flyaway race a year or every two years. I was really hoping for an east coast race right after Montreal but it never worked out. Perhaps in the future. The problem with the European rounds are that I'm much too busy during those months..

I would have done the Japanese Grand Prix after Malaysia but I had a wedding to attended back home.

Our GP is expensive but as a local its nice to sleep in my own bed and honestly I'd be going out either way on Friday/Sat nights so that doesn't change too much. We can also bring our own food/booze in

The concession prices are too pricey in Montreal. Those were dirt cheap in Malaysia..
