Did recent drive with the Porsche Club of Thailand to the Golden Triangle. My drive took me from Bangkok to Chiangmai to Chiangrai to the northern most point of Thailand, Mae Sai; to the highest point in Thailand, Doi Inthanon and of course to the Golden Triangle where the Thai/Burmese/Laos borders meet.....and back to Bangkok. A total drive of about 2,500km

Roads were fantastic, people were great, food was fabulous...and my newly tuned EFI 965 3.3 performed beautifully.

Love your new car. When did you pick her up? The LM's look great on it. I'm moving to Bangkok in July and want to buy a used 996 or 993... where did you buy yours from?

Was wondering if you had given up on your Bangkok move. I bought mine direct from last owner but it's my Thai Porsche fanatic buddies that found it for me within 2 weeks of me commiting to them I would buy a decent car ie. a porsche. you see I went with them on the golden triangle porsche drive 2 years ago in an NSX......and bought this 965 1 month after the trip

Anyway they seem to know what's for sale all the time from collectibles from 60's to the newer ones.

An easy place to start though is GT Cars (Petchaburi Rd) or Unity (Ratchadapisek Rd). Let me know when you're coming in and we can chat some more over drinks....that's how I met my Thai friends before moving to Bangkok: met one of them in Rennlist and then in real life over drinks when I arrived. Really great bunch of people.

Thanks for the info. I've looked into GT cars and haven't heard of Unity, so I'll look into them now. Whens the next drive? Hopefully I'll have a p-car by then. There's something special about seeing all those porsches on the streets of thailand.

Well just got SMS. Drive to Khao Yai this weekend which happens to clash with trackday at Bira which clashes with a business trip I've got to make. Sigh, so many things so little time. A fast car is essential to efficient time management, saves time!LOL

Yes I saw your 993 with SO2A N spec tires.I didn't know they still had SO2s. The tread looks different from the usual SO2 though.

I was looking out for the guy that owned the car. Were you the guy that was sitting on the bench as I was driving away?

Yep that is my car. I recently put the S02As on (about 2 months ago.) The S02As have a totally different tread pattern than the S02s. I don't think the S02 is available anymore.

When I dropped the car off, I saw your car with one wheel on a jack. I left for a while and came back but did not see your car there... so the guy on the bench probably not me. But before I leave I saw a foreign guy with a Porsche t-shirt on though... but not sure who he is!

Btw, what shock and spring do you run your car on? I like the lowered look of your car. I was afraid the lower my car with H&R springs because of the Bangkok road condition...

If it was a crew cut and slightly paunchy farang, it was my mechanic & friend from Singapore that designed my EFI project.

I am running Bilstein sport shocks with H&R red springs (stiffer than the green ones). No issues on bumpy Bnagkok roads but your sense of comfort may differ from mine. However, got to be careful on some carpark ramps since I put in the front lip. Otherwise car handles alot better and car no longer looks like a Cayenne.

No I don't track my car (as of now...) It is my daily drive though. That is why I am contemplating on the H&R spring. I just like the look of the lowered car... but not sure how much comfort I would have to sacrifice. Thanks for your input though.

Where do you usually track you car? Bhira? How often do you track it? With a bunch of Porsches?

You're welcome to ride in my car to see how the H&R/Bilsteins feel. On the 993, the same setup will feel more refined because of better multilink system on 993.

I usually go to Bira, Nakon Chaisi (Thailand Race Circuit) and Seacon (Bangkok Race Circuit). Used to just go with the Porsche guys but they don't have enough trackdays so I join the Singha Race School every month. Most cars in this group are WRX STIs, EVOs, Integras, Civics and some heavily tuned stuff. The crowd a little on the wild side on the track but I put a little distance between me and the front and rear guys.

Only way to really get to know your car's abilities is to track it. The car can take it, no worries.

Once in 2 months I try to gather a bunch of guys together to drive up-country for a day trip. If you're interested in joining such activities (country drives and trackdays), let me know

i have H&R bilstien on my 964 with 18inch, not bad really. it's my daily driver as well.

A more extreme drive round the Golden Triangle is planned for 2nd half of March. This drive will be more more mountain roads/less highways with socialising left mostly to night or via walkie talkie at day.

Right now there are 3 mini cooper S's and 3 porsches (965, 930, 964) interested. Should be limited to 10 or less.
