I'm in Adelaide, and have an '86 951. I'm just a little bit far for a get together, but it is good to see more locals involved in Rennlist & the local Porsche clubs.

I know personally of another 8 944 Turbos in SA. OZ951 is also moving from Texas back to SA, so there will be another enthusiast here soon.

Cheers
Jay

Things have been a bit quiet the last 2 weeks, so I'll try too get things
going again. Last weekend I took my 951 for a 350Km run with the PCNSW
and had a great day, met new people, saw some great cars, and a good feed. this has been the longest trip in my car , the MO30 suspension and
low profile tyres is a pain in the *** (literaly) but great when in corners...
safe driving

Default PCV Touring Assembly in July

I am running a touring rally/ motorkhana/ weekend away for PCV in late July in the Macedon region, north of Melbourne (a la Picnic at Hanging Rock). PCSA are to be invited I believe. I can pitch the idea in to the club of turnign this into a Mini-944 Fest if there is interest?

Thoughts?

I spent a couple of weeks in Feb in Brisbane for work...I kept my eyes peeled for 944s...and only saw one red 944 Turbo....I was going from downtown Brisbane towards Wacol....somewhere near the cricket stadium....

Are there many 951s in Brisbane?

Folks,
Good to see a bunch of Australian activity here on RennList. I have been actively looking for a 944 recently around Sydney and doing a LOT of research here and elsewhere. Have found a contender (maybe). Would any of you be interested in providing some advice on a price if I supply some details?

Looking forward to seeing you on the road!!

OK here goes...

84 auto 944 - red
exterior, 1 small dent front near headlight, generally about 80% exterior quality

interior, generally dog eared, cloth seats, bits missing here and there, 70% quality

suspension, ball joints gone I think, drives well otherwise

No original books, owner has had regular servicing. Yet to check the service receipts, could be time for belts I feel.

anybody wanna guess a price?

A rough guess based on the condition would be around $10,000--$12,000.
You're going to need to spend some $$ to get it restored to something decent. Interior bits aren't that expensive & you can get a lot of stuff sent over from the USA it still (in most cases) works out cheaper than buying it from Porsche Australia.
I would advise you get a Porsche specialist to give the mechanicals "the once over" I can reccommend Bob Whyms out at Seven Hills or if you're near the city, Hamilton Autohaus on the north side.
I have PM'd you some of my favourite websites where you can have a look at the price of parts in order to compare them with local bits. Also do a search for Porsche 944 on www.ebay.com there are thousands of bits there (USA).

Thanks PCMAX

The owner is wanting 8, got a feeling not quite worth even that. I am looking for a project however. Should I not bother with the really low end of the market?

Thanks
for the PM!

The low end of the market is OK if you have some time & resources to spend on the project. 8K would be reasonable when you consider you might still have to spend 5-6K on work. As I said there are plenty of parts available (in the US) if you have the time and money.
Maybe you should offer him 6 or 7K & see if you get a bite.
I'm not really into automatics though, I think that if your buying a sports car it should have a manual gearbox.
There were a couple 944's in last months classic car sales mag (not sure of the exact title) they looked & sounded like project cars.

Question

Thanks again PCMAX,

I see there is a 85 manual for sale in newcastle for 11000, mmmmmm...

One larger question - insurance... Do you have any pointers or figures to insure such a vehicle I am looking at?

really appreciating your input here

The best quote I could get was from NRMA (Ihave other policies with them) it was for just under $1200. The rest of the quotes ranged from $1500--$1800.

spangle,
the asking price apears OK, as there are a few older cars available keep
looking, do lots of homework and find out about the newer models,
take a turbo for a drive and you will be pushed back in the seat with
a big smile on your face and have the cheque book out before you
know it,
good luck ,
Russell

Spangle, late to chime in here, but like pcmax said consider the manual, when you are paying the parts and insurance prices in this country, you may as well get the full fat experience and go with the manual. The 944na is not so suited to an auto. Or if you really want an auto go the S2 (3 litre) but much more money, then I would go a turbo
