I'm starting to think that calling these spec Miata starts is an insult to the good men of spec Miata.
Verstappen and Alonso suffering at the hands of Kvyat is a shame. Especially after Alonso doing work in qualifying.

And what a finish (no pun intended) for him too!! Wow, those tires did not look healthy. Unfortunately another race with nearly no passes though. I don't really remember a pass for position on track actually. Seems like you could get within DRS but do nothing because of the DF.
Well time for prototype challenge on imsa.tv but that start was no better than F1

Yeah, that race was a bore, ultimately. Only pass of note was HAM on RAI and that was an undercut with pit strategy.
We need a good old intermittent showers race; those are the fun ones.

I enjoyed the race. Happy for Bottas. Bummer for Verstappen. Lame of Vettel to continue to assert that Bottas jumped the start after the stewards reviewed the data and concluded it was a fair start.

Kvyat should be banned--he simply cannot race w/o hitting someone.....and finally all is right in the world with LH back in sulk mode

Between Mosport and WGI the IMSA racing has been spectacular (doesn't hurt that Mini won ST at the Glen )......as for F1, maybe next week @ Silverstone......

I too thought he jumped it, as did Matchett and Brundle.....at any rate they were yukking it up in the room afterwards. I do agree; one more lap......Lance in the points again--great!

The slow motion video does actually show BOT's car moving before the lights went out but it appears to be by a true fraction of a second. Technically he ran the light but I don't think it was by enough that someone is going to make a Federal case out of it. I thought for sure he jumped it but when watching it played back at normal speed it looked like he just timed it perfectly. In any event, it was very close and lucky.

So it appears that while he did just barely jump the start, the sensors under the car don't capture such a small amount of movement! Incredible.

Part of the issue as I learned is that you are not allowed to 'anticipate' the lights before they go out, so technically, there is supposed to be a fractional delay before any movement - after the lights go out. On that basis, it might have been a 'perfect' start, but technically not in the spirit of the rules.
Not worth calling IMO, it really was too close to call.
Cheers

That circuit and the environs are beautiful. Reminded me of The Glen and Elkhart...
(But it probably doesn't have anything to rival Siebkens or Seneca Lodge.)

"I was a strong believer at the time that he jumped the start but I am guessing there is reason to believe he didn't, but I can't imagine his reaction time was 0.2s -- that would be normal. He said earlier he wasn't human, but he is Finnish!"
