Horrible accident. Supposedly they brought him out of the coma for a bit today and he was very positive. He has a very long road ahead of him though. Fingers crossed he finds the strength to power through.

Such a horrific accident......brought back very bad memories for me (identical to my Formula Ford accident). Hopefully his amputations are below the knee and not above the knee. It will make all the difference in the world to his mobility with prosthetic legs.
Besides donating, everyone should say a prayer for him. He has a huge challenge ahead of him.

Seems like most stories say "lower legs". Certainly significant functional difference between above and below knee amputations. I'd be pretty sure Zanardi has, or will be reaching out to him. It is very helpful in the early stages to speak with someone who "has been there" to ask questions and give you hope for what's possible. They say he is already talking about how he can adapt controls. That is a good sign, regardless if he ultimately decides not to drive again. edited for this link. it says a lot about the racing community......

I hate stuff like this but one of the positives is seeing how the motorsports community rallies around their own.

There is a video on Youtube (don't have the link right now) that details his recovery, worth the watch. His amputations were below the knee and he has been fitted with prosthetics and seems to be doing quite well all things considered. He has a great attitude and has even driven a race car. Godspeed to him as he continues his journey.
