They will fall off and smash another car's nose, or get bent when someone gets close (ask me how I know). I made up special pipes to keep the ends close to the bumper.
this is the only exhaust that will be under the sound DB level at laguna seca
Since you have a license plate I assume the car is also driven on the street? Maybe something less extreme that you can bolt on left-bending Laguna tips when you go there? I did that to my 996TT and it knocked my Db's down several points. From 96 to 87 to be exact. There must have been other variables at play with such a big drop, but say it's only 5db that's still a big help and you avoid the downsides mentioned above and extreme awkwardness at your next smog check or traffic stop 😁.
As mentioned by Mike those would likely snap off after a couple laps from the vibration. Even the much lighter "cookie cutter pipes" from many years ago would destroy themselves in short time just from the exhaust vibration unless they were retained.
Love the other examples of crazy exhausts. Of course I just posted my pic as a joke. Placing the sound reducers at the end of the exhaust is a great way to test different mufflers to determine their effect without requiring any welding. The mufflers would be placed further up the line once the right one is found.
I absolutely hate the noise restrictions at Laguna Seca. Not because I have to change the whole exhaust setup - everybody has to do that.... But many of those changes are SO Micky Mouse, they fall off on the track. I can't count how many sessions got black flagged because of exhaust debris on the track..... usually 3-4 laps after it fell off and run over by other cars......
