Took advantage of this deal last year with Jerry, great to work with (remote), answered all my question, had advice for options, installation, and provide great after sale support though the entire year after the sale as I worked on installation of sensors and display.

OP, i am pretty sure the answer is no, but SOLO DL with an E36 M3, 1997 so OBDII... will i be able to get any info or am i better using just a SOLO short of a full dash with sensors (which i have in my other E36 1996 race car..

I was told/have been reading that that protocol is so slow from the 97 cars that it does not play nice with the DL?

Can you shed any insight for me?

Thanks

^Same question but for a 1995 Spec Miata. I was told that 1995 OBD refresh rate is so slow and channels so few that Solo DL is just not worth it. True?

Obviously this would affect my purchase decision.

Nope. No info over CAN or OBDII that can be read by the Solo DL, but the Solo DL can certainly operate a camera, if you wanted to do that in the e36 M3 or Miata pre-1999. I have a number of people that run the Solo DL with a SmartyCam HD using only switched power to get good, automated video with speed, g-measures and lap times without any trouble. Go for it!

Following up on this though, one can add individual sensors to an E36 for anything one would want to measure (e.g., steering position, throttle, brake pressure, oil temps, oil pressure)?

I started a new build this week and am exploring putting in an MXS (already contacted Jerry) and assume I can just add sensors for everything I want.

That is true.

With the MXL2/MXS/MXG, you can add up to four analog sensors to the included harness. An additional four sensors can be added with the optional expansion harness OR by daisy chaining Channel Expansions into a Data Hub connecting to the AiM CAN connection on the dash.

Just no additional analog sensors (or even analog/square wave RPM signal) possible with the Solo DL.

OBD is about useless on most cars before 2002. The MX series with sensors works on all of the early cars. Email me if you have specific application questions. jandsaustin1 at verizon.net
