PCA Points Championship rules proposals
Let's start a separate thread and compile some Points Championship rules change proposals with supporting discussion. Maybe a steward will join in and explain the rationale behind some of the rules.
I'll start with a proposal that I have suggested for at least the last 3 years:
Rather than designate the 2nd (or final) Sprint as the points race (or make all races count for points), allow us to choose our best finish from the Sprints as our "points paying" race. This would make "all races count" and still be fair for Lime Rock (except with no choice available).

Reduce the bonus points form 10 to 5. In doing the math the results more closely correspond to each contender's actual average finishing position rather than a few large races skewing the result.
And all cars that start the race count for points. I recall a great race with Matt at WG where we raced for 86 minutes until I blew the trans. He did't get the point for winning after staying ahead of me for 86 minutes. Doesn't seem right.

I feel more races need to count for sure.....rewards consistency....I'd like to see all races count but understand its difficulty...
Understand limerock is special but that's too bad.....dont penalize all other races based on one....you need to do more than one race regardless.
All who take the green need to count for points.

Jack would the rule of "best 8" races still apply in your suggestion?

I say the easiest way to make this work is just that Lime Rock is different and there is one less race which could count.
LRP is my home track but I don't feel slighted if that were to happen. Its the best of 8 anyway and the top contenders are generally at, or over, 8 races.

Every car in class counts for points. The current rules makes no sense.
Lastly, I would float a suggestion that very minor contact, which could be rubbed out, should not result in a 13. The scrutes normally exercise discretion in this regard but it is a variable depending on who is on for the weekend.

Also, make no sense that a driver win championship when hes battling with 1-2 guys or by himself in a small race.
Some winners will attend all races and finish 1st in no people race but in big races, they finish 5-6th place and more

I wouldn't think qualifying should change. Each session grids the next. Although it is nice when the best sprint lap (in either race) grids the enduro.

agreed in concept... Events with 2 or less in class should count for less total points (possibly 5 for a win) Pca cup awards tires based on class size. Why not points also???

totally agree (enduro should count double, regardless of 90min vs 60min), in addition to pts for cars taking green and all races count - view the outlier races (i.e. LRP) as just that - they could be worth slighty less points - just figure that in with your championship strategy

Agree that enduros should be worth more.
I realize that some people race on a budget and don't have crew to refuel but there are 60 minute enduros that don't require any refueling.

No matter how many races that weekend, each racer should leave with their TWO best scores of the weekend counting towards the championship. Enduro could count double, and if that's your best score then that result becomes your TWO best scores of the weekend (equivalent of two races).
You still need 4 weekends (minimum 8 counted scores, 2 from each weekend) to be competitive for the championship and each weekend (including LRP) contributes equally in everyone's total score.
