Default Mid-Ohio Runoffs Practice video and data

So some cool stuff from practice days for the SCCA Runoffs at Mid-Ohio.

First up are three of my fastest practice laps from Friday:

Next up are some cool data overlays of my line and the line from one of the pro drivers that ran in my friends car on Tuesday. He's red and I'm yellow:

First image is of the keyhole where my line is actually faster (the only place on the track!!) and his line is fast in but from apex out is slower. My line is the preferred Mid-Ohio School line.

Next image is of T4-T6- here you can see he uses more of the road- in the data he also brakes later and get's on throttle earlier- you know just faster!!

Finally, here is the carousel, where I am just late in my turn in and unlike the keyhole, you do want to diamond it out like the pro driver does to get on throttle early in the right spot and accelerate out.

The data is all there, just do it! Simple right???

Good luck at the Runoffs. Have you raced at M-O before? Just an FYI ( which you probably already know) - the (wide) M-O school line through the Carousel will lose you one or two positions in a race if there's someone close behind you......and in SRF when is there not someone close behind? They'll stick their nose inside and you'll be forced even more wide.

Yes raced at the major in June, agree with you on leaving the door open! I think this is why you see the pro drivers line like it is, it's a great defensive approach and is the line I used in June- by late braking and rotating at apex not much chance for an easy pass, although if you don't have a good run out of one you will be toast no matter! Also depending on how close, a defensive inside line ahead of the keyhole works too and doesn't slow you down too much.

Re: keyhole...is your full segment faster there (through the end of the back straight) or are you just evaluating the corner. His line gives up time in the middle of the corner but my hunch is he gets it all back and then some by the next brake zone.

I could be wrong though which is why I ask. That's my home track and Id ultimately prefer his line through the keyhole for overall sector time at least in my personal experience

I'm faster overall through the end of the back straight. My exit speed is slightly higher, so it compounds through the end of the straight. Again not by much, like less than a tenth and it is the only section where I'm faster- everywhere else is, well... humbling to be sure! It is very close and personal preference probably I'm with you, the pro's line is a more defensive approach and doesn't cost hardly anything. Fun to compare to though.

good luck, have fun

ps - looks like you got through the first day fine. I was always amazed at how many people wadded up cars in the first session, sometimes on the first lap

Thanks, it's been challenging with only 15 minute sessions people go nuts- it's hard to get heat into your tires, nobody is close to test times. Today we made a setup change that helped deal with lack of rear grip, so I improved slightly but was loosing a rear wheel bearing that looked to cost me 3 tenths on the straights as it shifted out and caused the hub to grind on the brake assembly in the rear. Oh well one more shot, 21st out of 41 for the time being. I'll see about some video updates later tonight.

Thx,

Andre #87 SRF3
