Default 3 Wide @ Watkins Glen Esses? Doesn't work.

Looks like they need to do something about that flood-water curb/launch pad or someone is going to get launched into the crowd.

I feel bad (a little) for Danny. He had a chance to burp the throttle and cross to the left, but he guessed wrong.

That curb is a lot milder than it was last year, and looks like it was the grass that caused the initial lift. Talk about major multiple driver errors...in qualifying!!!

Good catch Dave, I didn't notice that initially. Camera car could have lifted sooner but man that was a wide open lane to the inside initially.....

Hmmm. I saw it unfold just as they turned down the hill and knew exactly what was going to happen. And it did.

Bad driving by the BMW who was way off line and then squeezed back in and pinched the Miata. Truly abysmal judgement by the camera car IMO for qualifying. He should have seen it coming and backed off. In a race ? 50-50. But in qualifying? Just DUMB

I feel bad for the guy who had his car trashed through no fault of his own.

He broke bones. Was a rental. Friends with camera car driver.

****ty situation. 3 wide in esses ends in sadness more than it should.

The launching pad issue is scary and needs to be fixed today.

Hands or feet I'm guessing. Not much time to get the limbs tucked in. I hope he makes a speedy recovery. I'm not sure it would have ended any better without the jump though. It still would have been a hard hit into the bushes.

Also I'm pretty convinced that he was crashing anyways. Camera car just helped it.

Miata missed the apex by about 10 feet, then tries to get back to it way too late, really bad driving.

I'd argue that he left the inside open because the BMW was coming.

Goes back to the hold your line argument.

I've wondered the same thing. Looks like he gets loose before heading in towards the curbing.

Camera car driver is one of the fastest drivers in the country. He voluntarily posted the video after asking permission from the driver that wrecked. While he has not explicitly taken blame, he is being very humble. Good drivers unfortunately make mistakes.

Watching the slow mo, there seems to be an asphalt curb there that acted as a launch ramp. Perhaps it's there to direct water but this clearly illustrates that another system may be safer. It was not a flat track to grass transition.
