This thread reminds me of my first stab at trailering. We thought our Dodge minivan could handle a Trailex open trailer but the van would need additional cooling. Space for the cooler was occupied by the secondary a/c system so that was the end of the idea of van as tow vehicle.
Which lead to trading my MB sedan in on an Expedition (yuck- lousy car/lousy truck), then an 01 F350 diesel dually crew cab long bed (overkill), then an 08 F250 diesel crew cab short bed (small fuel tank), and finally my current 12 F250 diesel crew cab long bed (perfection).
If the truck was my daily driver it would drive me nuts but luckily it's paired with a Mini.
I can't believe I do all this just to drive a car around a track 😂

I had a utility trailer for my 944 Turbo - it was a small enclosed box, that had enough space for all 4 tires, jack, ez-up, chairs, spares, tools, ect, plus a bike rack on top. It left room in the car for bags, helmet, laptop, camera, cooler...
Well, it looks like the only way I'm going to be trailering the GT4 is renting space on someone else's trailer... It makes the converting a motorhome to car carrier start to look like a better idea http://www.examiner.com/article/the-...ing-motorhomes
At least that will cut down on hotel bills!

I assume they calculate towing capacity based on tranny/engine/rear end/spring weight and strength.
Is wheel base and wrangler mass, CoG even considered?
For sure don't get a trailer that only has "surge" brakes, those things can be very unsettling and amplified on a lighter vehicle.

New basic steel deck open trailer is about $2100. New aluminum open deck is about$6500. The top of the price range is somewhere around all the money in the world.

Tow my M3 on a Featherlite 3110 with my Cayenne Turbo S.
Can easily hold 80mph up the hills here in Colorado. Tows really well. Trailer is great, easy load/unload, lots of room for stuff etc. mine has the 17.5' deck.
I agree with the others, don't think I'd want to tow with a Wrangler. Sell it and get a better rig suited for towing that you can also use as a DD?
