Default TraqMate RPM issue

Help!

This is related to the Traumata classic with the TraqData USB add on.

I just installed my TraqData USB and there’s a problem. The RPM’s stop registering at about 3500 rpm. At idle they are all over the place in the 20,000 to 40,000 range but once there is a bit of gas the reading becomes accurate. I’ve tried a few things like changing the number of cylinders and running the switch in coil and ecu mode and making sure it’s fully engaged either way. Still the rpms go to 0 after 3500 rpm.

The car is a 1999 Boxster and I’ve tapped into the same wire that others with SpecBoxsters use so I’m pretty sure it’s the right one.

Is there a setting of some kind in the user data I need to adjust?

PS: If you reply please use small and common words as I'm not an engineer

You need a resistor... no idea what that is but that's what everyone tells me when i'm flummoxed over some electrical problem.

Won't help you, but When I had my traqmate, I ran it from the tach wire, but with the new aim I ran it directly from the coil. That was reading double, but it was a software fix.

I may try from the instrument pod. Thank you Linz.

As of the rest of you . . . .

Hunt, if the USB box opens, does it have screws on the back? If so I bet there may be a very small dip switch in there that changes it from digital to analog, or vice versa. Give that a try before findong another rpm source. Good Luck

Thanks. I played with it both ways. This one has a switch for E (ECU) or C (coil).

I had a similar problem and it ended up being I was too fast for a traqmate. I had to switch to Motec. Your skills in Spec Boxster might be too much for a 8 year old traqmate.

Hunt, why not try using more throttle? To get the RPM above 3500, you know

Oh, and make sure to use 2nd gear a lot...

Thanks for all your help aholes! You know which of you are the aholes! The rest of you a genuine thank you.

My second attempt worked. Tapped in behind the instrument pod and set # of cylinders to 6 (instructions say 1) and it seems to be working now.
