Unfortunately the driver of one of the Shadow DN4's had a major accident at turn 11. Craig Bennet of RM Motorsports, Novi Michigan is still undergoing surgeries in Georgia. Keep him in your prayers.

Actually, Craig left the track, but not completely, at the exit of Turn 11. He went straight at the bottom of the hill head on into and through the tires at the entry of Turn 12.
Thankfully, he is alive. He did not lose consciousness and his head appears to be ok, but he is not yet through with surgery. He has two more this week and then hopefully done.
Our prayers are with him and before you ask, no one knows what happened. Craig has a tremendous amount of time driving the big, fast cars VERY fast, so he knows what he is doing. His teammate, Dave Handy, won the Feature race later that day in the other DN4, also owned by Jim Bartel, Craig's father in law and arch enthusiast.
No guarantees...

Very sorry to hear about Craig's misfortune. Best wishes to him for a quick recovery.
I've always thought the old Can Am cars were some of the most impressive cars of all time. Virtually unlimited rules aside from basic dimensions and layout. Back in the day, I understand they were as fast as the F1 cars. Not exactly the safest things to drive though ...
