Default Watkins Glen repave first race

The new track surface is quite nice. Still healing, but consistent grip. This is a clip from the first race weekend start of a 9 hours AER enduro. Your onboard our little E36 with Eric Wong on his live stream. Cars are running on street tires, but you can see there is still some pace! Eric ran a 2:12 in this car with non ABS , manual brakes, stock trans, factory aero with little lip added to trunk lid.

Thanks for posting. I'm really psyched to try out the 'new' Glen but won't be there until June.
I heard there was some rain at this event. My friend Bruce was P2 but I have no idea what he was driving!

2:12s is getting after it on street tires for an E36 (non M?). Wonger is damn fast.

What was the native racing class of the car, or is this just an AER specific build?

Any idea what that car ran previously at WG? Captain Obvious wants a guesstimate on how much fast he should be on new surface.

Tracks really nice. We had really good position on Sunday and were 1st in class in the afternoon plus up one pit stop with extra fuel on board so it would take a DNF or penalty to loose. So of course a front left shock came apart just as I got in the car. I got in on a double yellow and could barely keep up with the pace car. I managed to keep it on track for 40mins even though it was all over the place. Finally, a sister car came up behind and radio'd me to say "get the F in " your left is pointing out on every corner and when you brake. (it still did some 2:19s on 3 wheels) yikes!!

Car is a new build so no data. It was a caged chassis from PO that never finished it. So some sorting going on. Not much fancy here. Stock gear box S52 motor, some Koni shocks (damn them after it fell apart!!).

Good stuff. What was the tire of choice up there?

Direzzas, in this case we added some cheap fender flares and 255/40/17 profile. Tire wear was excellent. We used one set of tires Saturday (lost some track time due to a faulty brakes light switch), then the same set on Sunday for the first 6.5 hours (then the shock broke). I am certain they would have made it to 9 hours.

Bob - that pretty much sums up your driving style - LOL! Glad you had fun.
