Default DE student took my track communicator!

Update March 24, 2016 - the communicator has been returned. Thanks for the support and help getting it back ...

Hi all,

I thought I'd share the story about a DE student who took my track communicator. Nice of him, eh? I instructed this guy, I'll call him Bryant, at Lime Rock last summer. Bryant has a really nice Nissan GTR with a bunch of mods pushing the hp to 600 or so. This car really went! Anyway, during my time instructing him, we wound up putting my Chatterbox communicator in his glovebox. Yeah, that was a mistake. Anyway, he wound up leaving the track before the day was over so I didn't get to talk to him or get my communicator back. You'd think that wouldn't be much of an issue, right? Just call and arrange to get it back, right? Well, here I am, over 7 months later, dozens of calls and texts to this fine gentleman, and I still don't have it back.

To summarize:
- Bryant left Lime Rock with my Chatterbox communicator after I instructed him at a DE day
- On one of the few times he actually answered a phone call, he acknowledged having my communicator, and said he would send it to me
- I even offered to drive to him to pick it up from him!
- I still don't have my communicator back. Bryant stopped answering my calls and texts weeks ago.

This obviously pisses me off. I know Bryant is on other forums, probably not this one though. I figure if any track chairs are reading this, they may be interested in knowing this guy's name. Feel free to PM me.

Scott

That's not a very nice story. Sorry to hear it.
We can all relate to how easy it is to be lazy about mailing things, but after you gave the guy 'free' instruction (your time, not the club fees), the least he can do is return your bloody headset.
At this point he owes you a nice bottle as well.

I am sure you can get him black listed from registering for future events. The instructor community around here is pretty tight. Almost everybody knows everybody. It would be easy to make sure he never passed another check ride.

Scott, that's crappy. Sorry to hear that someone would pull that sort of thing. I know some GTR forum guys if you have his screenname and would like me to see if I can get some peer pressure on him without taking it to the next level of posting his name publicly.

At this point, I'm all for posting his name so that if he ever registers and we have him as a student, we can get it and return it to you.

Sorry to hear that, that sucks! While it's only human to forget to return something that was put in the glovebox (happens to the best of us), I am really surprised to hear he won't even let you come pick it up. I know I've had instructors go way out of their way for me (beyond, you know, riding in my car on a racetrack and sharing wisdom), and I can't imagine trying to hold on to something that belonged to an instructor.

Hope you have better luck with your next student!

What a dickturd. Wow.

Apparently spent too much on HP mods, with not enough left to focus on being a decent human being. Sorry to hear, Ugh.

Yeah, might as well introduce him by name to the family if it comes to that.

I mean wtf. How does this happen. This dude is amazing. There is literally no favor of even moderate inconvenience I wouldn't do for an instructor who rode with me. Taking a small electronic to a post office and popping it into a flat rate postage box certainly falls well within that sphere.

Hell, I've trailered an instructor's broken car to his house while he drove my car behind me.

Eff this guy. Show a modicum of gratitude.

I'd send a note to all the ci's and registrar's in zone 1. If he's an lrp regular, send it to scda and the other local groups, too. Make sure they know he's a thief. I'm a big believer that bad behavior needs to have consequences.

You gave him every chance to make it right. A public shaming is in order.

Thanks guys for the support - I really appreciate it!

Bryant reached out to me last night and said he'll return the communicator and headsets. Stay tuned ...
