Question Helmet Recommendations

I'm getting back into autocrossing and need a more up to date helmet. I was running around before in 2005 with an HJC CS12 that was SNELL 2000 rated. It was comfortable, but need something other than a motorcycle helmet that is at least 2010 rated. I would prefer 2015 so I don't have to worry about it for a while.

Any reasonably priced recommendations? I don't think I want to drop more than $300 on a helmet.

Thanks.

It's protecting your brain. Might not want to get the cheapest possible helmet. Not saying everyone should buy a $1000 helmet, but head protection is not the place to skimp, IMHO. Also, make sure you try it on or if buying online, get it from a place that will let you return it if it doesn't fit right. It's hard to recommend a helmet, because fit is so important, and everyone's head is a little different.

1) When was the last time you saw a car flip at an autocross?
2) Which car do you think he autocrosses with: 928, ML350, E350?
3) Did he mention he had a 928?

So you're saying guys who drive 928s don't deserve good head protection?

Don't think of it in terms of brand. Think in terms of fit. Find the helmet in your price range that fits YOUR head. None of us can advise you on which one that is. If you find two that fit equally well, buy the lighter of the two.

Hi Mongo, you should check out i/o port. They're located in Lafayette in the East Bay and you can go and try on some helmets. It's a small shop run out of the guy's house but he's got competitive prices and a pretty good selection. I bought a Bell Sport from him for about $350. I tried on various brands but the Bell fit me the most comfortable. I bought my first helmet online and regretted it because it got uncomfortable as the day wore on.

HJC AR10, Bell Sport, Black Armor are all pretty good entry/mid level helmets. As long as it meets SA spec they should all protect you equally, the extra money is put into bells and whistles (less weight, nicer visors, hans anchors, communications ports, forced air etc).
