Best place to buy racing suit
I need to purchase my first racing suit. Anyone have thoughts to a good place to purchase one, a shop with knowledgable sales people and a good return policy if it doesn't fit? Thanks

Race suit sizing
Give Linda a call at Apex Performance. She can review size charts with you and help determine what will fit best if you don't have a local shop to try them on.

OMP also does custom suits - leadtime this time of year is probably 6-8 weeks though. Made to measure, nomex colors of your choice, embroidery, etc. If interested in a quote, give Linda a call.

Agree with ProCoach about the list of good vendors. Just by the posting here you can see how good a shop ApexPerformance is... They are really great to deal with and patient also.
Another alternative if you are in the North East is http://www.vasracingsuits.com/ very good custom suits...
With suits, you get what you pay for. You may not understand or realize it until after why certain things matter...

My first suit three decades ago was made by VAS. Measured by Team Highball's Bunny Johnson and made for me. Good memories of both the suit and suit size!

Only very recent, IMO. Look for the SFI or FIA tag.

If you are close a vendor who stocks them and you can try them on, do it. The manufacturers follow a general sizing chart (U.S. or Euro) but there is variance between manufacturers so some with fit differently than others. For example, I where a 54 in OMP, but a 56 in Sparco and Alpinestars. I've worn them all and all are excellent quality. Unless you have a very unique body type, you should be able to find something off the rack.
You could get lucky and find a lightly used recent model suit. Some guys dabble in racing then decide it's not for them and good deals can be had if you find one. If you do that, make sure it has the proper SFI and/or FIA certification labels in place. Beware of some of the suits you have seen in movies that pop up on ebay from time to time. Some were not FIA or SFI certified. For club racing with NASA, SCCA, PCA, you will need a minimum of 2 layers to pass tech.
If you have any other questions, I'll be happy to answer them for you.
Kind regards,
