Default Big changes for IMSA TV coverage

Lots of faces going away and tlk of remote coverage. If they go remote just hand it over to Radio Lemans.

"You don't get what you pay for; you get what you negotiate to receive, and with IMSA's telecasts racing up and down FOX's channels, and its own website, one must ask how the series got itself into this position in the first place."

I can give you one name to answer the above: Atherton

I kind of figure we're heading toward driverless cars and broadcaster-less race shows. Google will drive the car ontrack and siri will broadcast the race commentary.
Varsha always does a great job. Shame on IMSA.

Yet another blow. Then again, it has become so hard to watch on TV over the last few years, wonder how it could get much worse.

Gosh, I miss the old ALMS series, both in person and when it was all broadcast on TV.

Cheers

Matt

ya but doesnt NASCAR own IMSA now??

Wouldn't they know how to bolster TV coverage???

10000 viewers per race is pathetic.

It is not like this sport could cost anymore money, WOW.

I think NASCAR bought it to protect NASCAR. The cars driving in IMSA are way more relevant than the "cars" driven in NASCAR. They could throw resources into it but they don't. What else could be the reason?

He seems like a very nice guy but I don't care for him as a broadcaster. I liked Dorsey Shrader as the color guy and Bob Varsha as the facts guy.

Totally agree... I used to camp out all weekend at the ALMS race at Mosport. Met guys like Don Panoz, Alan McNish, and many others in the paddock who where all happy just to be racing. The Petit LeMans closing the season was cool also...

There was a certain air about the fact that you where as close to LeMans as you could be without actually going to the race itself. I remember bringing beers to the Michelin Tire guys in the evenings and they would tell stories about the previous LeMans races...

That common thread of a love for the mystique and passion of LeMans brought a certain romance to the series that can't be duplicated by corporate BS and fancy interweb marketing teams of a disconnected series.

He's like the PA announcer at the local quarter-mile dirt track who just can't shut up. Everything is "fabulous" and "wonderful" and "amazing."

This single hire alone will keep me from watching. Or will, at least, cause me to mute the sound. He made an absolute mess of Pirelli Tire coverage, totally unwatchable.

I will say that none of the commentary was what I would call first rate. The tendency is for them to only talk about the car that's shown on the TV screen which is always the leading DP car. Always. And I couldn't care less about the DP cars.

It is always eye opening when they switch from the TV crew to the RLM crew. RLM does a 1000% better job of keeping you up to date about everything going on not just the one stupid DP car the cameras decide to follow.

This appears to be a death spiral for IMSA, frustrating. I normally DVR the races and watched them in the evenings but I (my DVR) struggled all year to record the races due to the fact the coverage jumped all over the channels. Because they have degraded the coverage why don't they just stream and have Radio LeMans call the races.
