I am mostly interested in hearing from those with real world experience with the ecoboost, hopefully the 2.7, but since the 3.5 is not out of the question, info on that engine is appreciated.
What is the difference in tow ratings from Ford with the max tow package? That may give you some info.

The 2010 Expy 5.4 V8 with max tow is just shy of 11,000 lbs.

I would think the 3.5 would have better resale, I also believe it has been around longer. Is the the 2.7's mileage that much better?

I have no experience with this personally, but I track with 3 others that have recently purchased the F150 Ecoboost (with high option packs) two pulling enclosed 20' trailer and 1 an 18' open. Two closed are trailers haul Caymens the open is a GT3. They all swear by these.

An interesting twist in the plot.

Wife got involved, wanted to know why I wanted to get rid of the Yukon for a truck. She stated that she liked the yukon and would rather drive it than her ford fusion hybrid. She suggested that she drive the yukon on a daily basis, and that I sell the fusion and by a sportscar. Yes, I'm not making this up The only caveat is that when I need to yukon for towing, she gets to drive the sportscar. I'm thinking 2009-2011 Cayman S

I owned a F150 3.5L Ecoboost for a little over 2 years until it got totaled in an accident. It towed super well and I loved the truck, but was always concerned about reliability with the more complicated motor.

I test drove a new aluminum body F150 with The 5.0 liter V8, which is a super reliable motor, gets virtually the same mileage, and costs less to acquire. You can really feel the weight reduction ford made with the new aluminum body - the truck rides nice. The 5 liter is awesome. You can order a F150 with that motor and 3.73 gears now, which is a great choice for towing. I encourage you to test drive the 5 liter.

I feel like the smaller ecoboost is a bit too small for towing frequently to the track.

I own a Tundra right now and like that truck too. It's bullet proof reliable, but the mileage is terrible. Most likely I will opt for another ford next year.

Contrary to popular belief, if you balance your trailer properly (correct tongue weight) and have functioning trailer brakes, a half ton truck like the F150 will tow a 6000# or 7000# trailer just fine. There's not much need for a diesel 3/4 ton unless your going larger than that.
